These towering intellects have, if nothing else, utterly turned me around on the importance of an independent UK nuclear deterrent. No country truly has sovereignty if they can't glass half the Eastern seaboard should the US invade them.

I used to mock people who called Trump a “fascist” during his first term. While I never voted for him, it always just felt hysterical or an exaggeration. After January 6, I started to understand. Now, I realize how wrong I was. For that, I owe those people an apology.

I miss when I was just regular sad about the world—before 3 AM tweets from the president, before watching safety nets dissolve and genocide get a PR team. When people say they miss simpler times, my generation really means before all this.

Rising political violence is bad, even when it happens to someone I do not like, whose views I find reprehensible. The road of endless escalation leads nowhere good for society.
