England's land can provide for everything we need, from food to energy infrastructure, if used effectively. In March, the government set out an ambitious plan for making the best use of England's land. We've been tracking how they're doing, against 79 commitments set out in the Land Use Framework.

Our new dashboard shows that just 10% of the commitments have been delivered, while 7 actions promised by the end of this year are still due. The commitments are split into four categories, below you can see how progress is being made for each, and where work is still to be done.

A circular economy would create skilled jobs, support the economy, and reduce costs for the public. A focus of this year's #COP31 is the circular economy and zero waste. This presents an opportunity for Andy Burnham to show leadership on the issue, by announcing the plan for a circular economy.

The government’s Circular Economy Growth Plan was due in October 2025. A year later, we're still waiting. As head of resource policy, Libby Peake, explains in a new blog, the plan gives Burnham a script for his summit address, and chance to show the benefits of shifting towards circularity.

Big questions are being asked about next week's #budget, and what it will mean for environmental policy. As economics consultant, Steve Coulter, argues in a new blog, the budget is an opportunity to shore up our economic resilience to climate change, and protect people now and in the future.

Over the next few months, the UK govt faces defining tests of its climate credentials. #Jackdaw was the first. After the hottest summer on record, approving this new gas field is disappointing – for the climate, but also for our energy security, bills and jobs.

After #Jackdaw, the stakes are higher for big decisions to come. The govt must now hold firm, reject #Rosebank and #Heathrow expansion, and keep up ambition on the #ZEVmandate and the #WarmHomesPlan.

2️⃣ Next week’s budget: a moment for government to show strong climate commitment. Support to install heat pumps, solar and batteries through the Warm Homes Plan and Boiler Upgrade Scheme mustn’t be cut. This tech helps to tackle both high bills and climate change.

3️⃣ Keeping zero emission vehicle mandate ambition. With fuel prices at an all time high, now’s not the time to slow up; EVs are cheaper to buy and run. Switching UK carmakers to EVs is best for their long term survival & this is the UK’s biggest climate policy.

1️⃣ #Jackdaw and #Rosebank - the red line must be drawn after #Jackdaw. If #Rosebank was approved, its carbon emissions would be over 7x more than Jackdaw’s, blowing any chance of meeting legal emission targets.

Jackdaw’s gas could only power the UK for 2 months, it won’t bring down bills because prices are set internationally and the field is unmanned. Going faster on clean, domestic energy, & electrifying our economy, is the only way to cut bills, get off fossil fuels & ensure energy security.

High demand for EVs, solar panels and heat pumps shows people want to switch. The government must support them to do it faster, especially those on lower incomes. Here are the tests still to come ⬇️

This summer left no doubt about the impact climate change is having on our towns, cities, and the natural world beyond. Now, an anonymous memo from insurance industry professionals shows how severe the risk to our infrastructure really is, and how seismic the economic repercussions could be.

Over the past year, the government could have been building a resilient economy by rolling out a plan for a thriving circular economy. Instead, we’re still waiting for the Circular Economy Growth Plan they promised would be released last October.

This week, organisations from Green Alliance’s Circular Economy Task Force are calling on the government to stick to their promise and publish the plan. We’re sharing three voices from our task force, business, and the voluntary sector, on what a circular economy could really mean for England.

How's the government doing on its Land Use Framework, released in March? It's an ambitious vision for the future of England’s landscapes and we've been tracking its progress so far on the 79 actions promised 👇

Creating jobs and saving households money is key to the government’s mission. Why are they dragging their heals on a plan that would do just that? A circular economy would create jobs and is a popular idea, but a year on, the government still hasn’t released the Circular Economy Growth Plan.

This week, Green Alliance’s Circular Economy Task Force is calling on government to release the plan. We're sharing three voices who know the benefit a circular economy would have for business, and consumers: from our task force, from business, and from a consumer-facing worker.

As Keith James, head of public sector partnerships at WRAP, a member of our task force, explains, there is huge public demand for products that can be reused and repaired ⬇️
