Today on The Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played, let's take a look at the wonderfully weird, strikingly surreal J. J. Squawkers, a run and gun sidescroller from Athena Corp. that lets you fight some of the weirdest bosses you've ever faced with leftover junk! #gaming #videogames #retrogames

greatestgames.substack.comThe 16-bit Arcade and Console Era (1990-1995) - J. J. SquawkersYou’re a buff green bird in a surreal world of fast-moving action and endless enemies. So why not fight back with beans, screws, tomatoes, melons, gears or an arsenal of slinkies in hi-top shoes?

Today on The Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played, we take a look at High Seas Havoc, a mascot platformer from Data East that looks and plays a lot like Sonic with a salty pirate seal as its hero! I'm a a little rough in places, but it's a fun one all the same #gaming #videogames #retrogames

greatestgames.substack.comThe 16-bit Arcade and Console Era (1990-1995) - High Seas Havoc (a.k.a. Capt’n Havoc and Captain Lang)A pirate seal provides an adventure that’s the most Sonic-like of all the wannabe Sonic games, but it’s still quite good on its own merits.

If you haven't played Iconoclasts, you absolutely should! It's a sort-of "Metroidvania" progressive exploration game (I hate that term so much...), but it has great boss battles and one heck of a sacrilegious story!

You can get Iconoclasts for extremely cheap on Nintendo Switch and Steam right now! Please support 💛 Switch: www.nintendo.com/us/store/pro... Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/393520/I...

I've yet to play the full game (which is out TODAY), but finally got around to trying the Moadra demo and GODDAMN, this feels like the PC's answer to Metroid Dread. Funny thing is, this was unveiled three days before Dread released, so I think it might just be parallel evolution. Feels SO good.

As I've said so many times, Wolverine is fine. Try it and see! I won't argue with those who didn't like it but I'll shout down those who bad faith critique without playing it. I had fun with it and I thought it did a good job of setting up the X-Men universe using Wolverine as the entry point.

dlvr.itMarvel’s Wolverine Proves You Shouldn’t Always Trust What You See On Social MediaDespite mixed reviews and lukewarm player reception, Marvel's Wolverine has done surprisingly well on the sales chart and set a new record for Sony. New data shared by Circana shows Marvel’s Wolverine debuted as September's best-selling game, delivering the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published game since February 2024’s Helldivers 2. PlayStation 5 hardware dollar sales also increased by 43%, resulting in Sony achieving its highest hardware dollar share in a month since May 2025--no doubt thanks to a PS5 costing more today than it did last year. "Marvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling game of September in full game dollar sales, debuting as 2026’s 11th best-selling game overall, Circana's Mat Piscatella wrote, adding that out of the top ten best-selling games of September in the US, eight of those games were new releases. Marvel's Wolverine had plenty of competition last month in the form of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but it still managed to take the top spot in that category--not too bad for a game that was only available on a single platform in a crowded month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nGnaG7kVIA&t=2s&pp=0gcJCSwMAYcqIYzv Piscatella had previously spoken about how Marvel's Wolverine had broken a live-service stranglehold on the PlayStation charts, ranking seventh on Circana's Top 10 Titles by weekly active users in the US. Sony hasn't commented on the game's overall sales performance yet, but estimates suggest Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 1.9 million units as of September 18, with physical sales accounting for 799,000 units. That's a solid number, but not enough to help it break into the top 10 best-selling games of 2026 in the US, according to Circana. NBA 2K26 is currently the top seller in the US, pushing Resident Evil Requiem to second place, with other games like 007 First Light, MLB: The Show 26, and Pokemon: Pokopia filling the remaining spots. GameSpot's Marvel's Wolverine review scored the game an 8/10, with editor-at-large Tamoor Hussain describing it as a "fun but forgettable" experience. Top 10 Best-Selling Games Ranked on Physical & Full Game Digital Dollar Sales Rank Title Last Month 1 NBA 2K27 3 2 Resident Evil: Requiem 1 3 007 First Light 2 4 MLB: The Show 26 4 5 Crimson Desert 5 6 Call of Duty: Black Ops II 6 7 Forza Horizon 6 7 8 Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream 8 9 LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight 9 10 Pokemon: Pokopia 10

Dang, this would have been cool! I would have been super interested in playing Mass Effect meets Alpha Protocol by way of John Wick with psychic powers.

Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday www.reddit.com/r/masseffect...

This is cool! For anyone who doesn't know, the Coles are a husband/wife team of two of the all-time great adventure game designers, best-known for the Quest for Glory series.

Something deeply surreal about watching Lori and Corey Cole playing my game after decades of loving theirs... www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2zI...

Today on the Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played, we take a look at Ardy Lightfoot, a truly unique mascot platformer from ASCII Corporation that's a little rough around the edges due to some wonky controls, but which also grows on you the longer you play it! #gaming #videogames #retrogames
