A new pre-print out - we show that promoters and terminators of transcription are frequently coupled, throughout the bacteria, and this is regulatory. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Two post-doctoral positions open in our lab. We're looking for people with expertise in molecular microbiology and/or genome-scale tools. Initially 3 yrs, posts could be extended for upto 8 yrs. If you'd like to know more about us take a look at www.graingerlab.com www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DQY475/r...
In our most recent work David Forrest has discovered a widespread mechanisms linking transcription initiation to DNA supercoiling... www.nature.com/articles/s41...
@ewarman.bsky.social has followed up on her discovery of bidirectional promoters in bacteria by defining their basic rules for regulation and links to gene expression noise... academic.oup.com/nar/article/...
A busy few weeks for the lab 🥵... three new stories published. The first describes activation of transcription by DNA distortion academic.oup.com/nar/article/...
Our lab is offering 3 PhD projects this year across 3 different topics: antibiotic resistance mechanisms, evolution of pathogenic bacteria, and fundamental mechanisms of gene regulation. www.findaphd.com/phds/?Keywor...

'We show that the VqmAj homologs can indeed detect (host autoinducer) DPO and, in response, activate the lytic pathway. Our observation indicates that jVP882 is a member of a large family of globally-dispersed quorum-sensing-responsive temperate phages.' www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
