Governor Josh Shapiro

Starting next school year, a bell-to-bell cell phone ban will take effect in every single Pennsylvania classroom. We’re getting back to the basics and keeping our classrooms focused on learning.

BREAKING: We’re getting cell phones OUT of our classrooms here in Pennsylvania.

I just signed a statewide, bipartisan bell-to-bell cell phone ban into law. During the school day, students should be focused on learning, making friends, and building skills critical to their development — not focused on their phones.

I’ve heard parents, teachers, and students loud and clear on this: too much screen time is hurting our kids both at school and at home. So we took action. I’m proud that we got this done.

When I took office, the state Supreme Court had ruled that Pennsylvania’s system for funding public education was unconstitutional — leaving too many of our school districts underfunded.

We’re driving $12 BILLION out to school districts across our Commonwealth for the first time ever — and that’s allowed us to provide free school breakfast for every student, expand mental health services, and repair outdated school buildings to keep our kids safe and healthy.

Don’t let anyone tell you progress isn’t possible in a short period of time. We’ve proven that it’s possible here in Pennsylvania.

When I took office, the state Supreme Court had ruled that Pennsylvania’s system for funding public education was unconstitutional — leaving too many of our school districts underfunded.

Less than four years later, we’ve worked to fix that, increasing the amount we investing our next generation of leaders by nearly 35%.

Abortion is health care.

And those health care decisions should be made by a woman and her doctor — not by the federal government, and certainly not by Donald Trump.

So long as I’m Governor, abortion will remain safe, legal, and accessible here in Pennsylvania. And I will always protect a woman’s fundamental freedom to make her own decisions about her body.

On my watch, Pennsylvania is finally investing real resources in the life sciences. And GSK’s $800 million decision to expand in Upper Merion is proof that those investments are paying off.

No one can survive in 2026 making $7.25 an hour. Let me put that in real terms: If you work a 40-hour work week, that’s a little over $15,000 a year. That’s not sustainable.

Despite that fact, another legislative session has come and gone — and while the House has voted repeatedly to raise the minimum wage, Republicans in the State Senate left town again and refused to even bring a minimum wage bill up for a vote.

It’s not okay. It’s time to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania.

Unlike Donald Trump, we don’t believe stoking fear and creating chaos keeps anyone safe.

We do things differently in Pennsylvania and it’s working: Violent crime is down 16% and homicides are down 39% across PA — because we’ve invested in both law enforcement AND community violence prevention programs.

I know that there are Pennsylvanians who are horrified by what they’re seeing out of Washington. But hear me when I say: That will never be the path we take as long as I am Governor of this Commonwealth.

With all of the chaos, cruelty, and corruption coming out of D.C., I get why people think government just isn’t working for them anymore. Here in Pennsylvania, we’re charting a better path forward — and this week is just one example.

I signed 58 bipartisan bills into law yesterday to address some of the pressing problems Pennsylvanians face every day — affordability, safety (both in their communities AND from AI), access to health care, and so much more. That’s what public service should be about.

BREAKING: I just signed into law a bipartisan bill that requires real transparency when it comes to AI use in advertising.

Here in Pennsylvania, we’re leading on commonsense regulations to protect people from AI and the dangers it poses — but I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: we need to get real guardrails passed into law.

Grateful to @senpisciottano.com for his hard work getting this bill to my desk.

BREAKING: I just signed into law a bipartisan bill that requires real transparency when it comes to AI use in advertising.

Pennsylvanians deserve to know if and when AI is being used in ads — and now, thanks to this new law, any advertisement in the Commonwealth that uses AI technology must make that crystal clear.

This was an important step in our effort to rein in this technology, but we need to do more — Pennsylvanians have real concerns about the impact it could have on their jobs, the safety of their kids, and our elections.

NEWS: I just signed 58 bipartisan bills into law. We're getting stuff done for Pennsylvanians.

From bringing down costs, to protecting against the dangers of AI, to supporting members of law enforcement and first responders, and expanding access to health care — we’re taking commonsense steps to benefit Pennsylvanians. I just signed 58 examples.

That’s how government should work. That’s GSD.

Let me translate this headline for you: The Trump Administration is abandoning their commitment to help states when disaster strikes.

In a crisis, Pennsylvanians should have the peace of mind knowing that someone will be there to help them. My Administration is taking action to keep people safe.

I signed an Executive Order earlier this year that created a new task force of experts to lead this effort — and they’re already hard at work. Here in Pennsylvania, we'll stand ready to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters — no matter what the federal government does next.

BREAKING: The PA House and Senate just officially passed a bell-to-bell ban to get cell phones out of our classrooms.

I called for this in my Budget Address and repeatedly urged the legislature to act — and now, we've brought Democrats and Republicans together to get this done for our students and our educators. It's time to get back to the basics in school and let our kids be kids.

While they’re still in school, we require student teachers to work full-time in the classroom to complete their training — all while they’re trying to pay their rent, put food on the table, and put gas in their car.

We can’t expect them to work that full-time job for free as they complete their mandatory work experience.

That’s why we secured additional funding for our Student Teacher Stipend program in our latest budget — so that 3,000 more future educators get an extra $10,000 of income to help them cover their expenses while they finish their education.

Today, I joined fallen Officer Shane Seiber’s family, his loved ones, his brothers and sisters of the Philadelphia Police Department, and the entire City of Philadelphia in honoring his memory and life of service.

Lori and I join this community in praying for Shane’s wife Lisa, their two kids — Finn and Emily — his mother Michelle, his stepfather, Nelson, his brothers John and Max, and his sister Sophia — along with all of Shane’s family and everyone who loved him.

May God offer you comfort and strength in this time of mourning, and may Officer Shane Seiber’s memory forever be a blessing.

While his life was cut far too short, we all have a collective responsibility to come together and remember his life of service and the ultimate sacrifice he made to keep his community safe.

Policing is a noble profession, and those who take on the incredibly difficult task of protecting our communities deserve our profound gratitude and deep respect.

To them, he was known as “Colgate” for his big smile that could light up any room. He was a team player — someone who you could always count on to have your back.

For 10 years, Shane put on the uniform and the badge every day, kissed his family goodbye, and left home to protect and serve his neighbors.

He served two tours in Iraq with the United States Air Force — and even after he returned to civilian life, he continued his commitment to serving others when he decided to become a police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department.

As I’ve listened to stories about Shane from some of the officers who served with him, it struck me how his kindness shone through in every memory they shared.
