Hey. Take a listen to our new show!

Episode Number Nine@episodenumbernine.bsky.social

New! EN9: OPEN ALL HOURS Arkwright wants shot of some fig biscuits and Mavis thinks she's been visited by the spirit of a Victorian shopkeeper. Meanwhile, Tyler thinks this is better than Porridge, Chris disagrees, and they tick off the Roy Clarke trademark tropes podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o...

Just remembered that time a few years ago in Lymm bakery when the queue was being held up by a grey-haired nutcase at the counter who was telling the staff that "the Japanese fought until it was last man standing!" Reader, it was Ian Brown.

Michael, we're not going to fight about this, okay? Paul, I think I told you, I'm lover not a fighter. I've heard it all before, Michael... she told me that I'm her forever lover, you know, don't you remember? Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another...

What are some phrases or exact combinations of words which nobody under the age of 45 would ever utter? "Dulcet tones" for instance.

I'd be quite happy with Cliff releasing a reggae song for Christmas if it was dedicated to the memory of Donald J Trump

Every bit as good as you expect. And I definitely used to get the Sunday Fear when I heard that mournful trumpet.

I can’t stand the “That Was Before My Time” lot, especially when they’re inconsistent. My 20-yr-old son can tell me what the diet of the stegosaurus was yet stares at me blankly when I mention Winifred Atwell

Totally missed this had been released. I wish I'd come up with this idea! Bastards :D

My nervous system is having difficulty taking this in

[1992] Pebble Mill - "I talk to the audience like I talk to my friends.". Bill Hicks appeared on Pebble Mill and spoke to Judi Spiers for a wide-ranging discussion on everything from varying his comedy act for UK audiences to an idea for a screenplay involving Elvis.

The first episode of EN9 dropped today, in which we look at a 1981 episode of Open All Hours and also discuss the Roy Clarke sitcom universe, replete with repetition and brassy Northern women. The burning question is of course: well, DID they? Take a listen: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/e...

My wife has just admitted, after nearly thirty years together, that she only pretended to like the Carry On films to please me when we were courting. Grounds for divorce?

I'm sick of biopics about people who may be famous to other people but are nonentities as far as I'm concerned Give me two hours on the life of Geoffrey Palmer called I Want My Sausage

I so want to believe my wife’s story that when she was working for John Lewis she took a call from someone on behalf of Professor Stephen Hawking who was complaining because a freezer delivery was late. She could hear him in the background: “Don’t... let...them... fob...you...off.”

Next week our first show drops, hosted by Chris Diamond and Tyler Adams and it's looking at an episode of OPEN ALL HOURS from 1981. Here's a picture of Nurse Gladys Emmanuel reacting to a ribald crack from a r-randy shopkeeper

I've just spent a thoroughly enjoyable lazy Sunday afternoon binge-watching Ghosts. I've never watched it before - typically I think I saw half an episode about five years ago and wasn't that keen so never pursued it - but it is brilliant. Why didn't anyone INSIST on me watching it before now?

"Of course we don't watch the BBC in our house. I rang them up and said "I refuse to pay your tax for rubbish that nobody wants to watch anyway" - what did I say Roy?" "You said "Can you send me a tape of Ross Kemp sweating and shouting?""

Nigel Farage once said his favourite sitcoms were The Good Life, Dad's Army and 'Allo 'Allo. Ok, I wouldn't have expected Glam Metal Detectives or The Strange World of Gurney Slade but there is something drearily predictable about his choices.
