I’m proud to have helped secure $1.5 million in federal funding to support their building renovation, creating modern workspaces and better facilities for artists while preserving the history and culture that make this institution so special.

Everything costs too much. I grew up watching my parents work four to five jobs a week to make ends meet. My dad didn’t have health insurance until he got Medicare at 65. My mom lives on Social Security alone.

I visited the Teen Tech Center at the Weingart YMCA in Boyle Heights. I was able to secure $1.5 million in federal funding which has enabled them and other local YMCAs to provide teens with access to all sorts of different resources.

I visited seniors at Angelus Plaza for a health fair to connect with neighbors getting care to stay strong, healthy, and vibrant for years to come.

Trump promised to lower costs on day one: he did the opposite. He campaigned on no new wars, he started a war of choice with Iran that we’re STILL stuck in. Over and over the president has lied to the American people and broken his promises.

He was a Long Beach city employee for almost a decade and has no reported criminal record, but none of that mattered to Trump’s ICE agents. In Trump’s America, if you simply look like Ricardo, if you look like me, they’ll arrest you and throw you to the ground.

I visited the Pico Union Project to see how they’re making a difference, from planting trees that provide shade to offering food, health checks, and connections to resources every Thursday.

We knew this day could come. The Trump administration announced a 45 day “immigration enforcement surge” that just so happens to run through the election.

Yesterday in Downtown LA, ICE detained a mother and her 9 year old child. Then, agents began pressuring the mother to bring in her 4 year old daughter (a US citizen). The mother was overwhelmed and unsure of her rights.

As the day unfolded, my team along with immigrants rights activists, the family’s lawyer, and US Senator Alex Padilla and his team spent the day fighting to secure this little girl’s release. Around 6pm, the 4 year old little girl was released to her attorney and aunt.

I visited the seniors at Estrada Courts in Boyle Heights to check in on the federal investments I've secured over the years to help renovate their homes with AC units, fresh paint, new windows, and much needed repairs.

Since the start of Trump’s massive immigration raids I’ve been fighting his administration tooth and nail. When ICE tried to keep me from inspecting their facilities, I took them to court: AND WON.

Since then, I’ve been exercising my right as a member of Congress to do unannounced, spot-inspections of ICE’s B18 detention facility. I give them zero notice so I can see what the conditions inside truly are, not what they want me to see. Oversight helps create accountability.
