More than 8,000 English-language demos registered for Oct 2026 Next Fest (compared to ~4.4k in June or 2.8k in Oct '25, per my notes). There's a LOT of genAI, but also some amazing human projects. Still learning how Bluesky works, but wanted to share my favorite finds so far. Please share yours!

Music making friends, does anyone have any good resources for finding people who make lo-fi music for games? Very very hard no and go away to anything AI, if I wanted that I could just use the results search engines gave me.

I don't get a lot of time to play demos during NextFest, but wanted to try at least a few during the first two days. Both of these feature goblins in either a primary or secondary way because I guess that's my thing now? Definitely recommend giving them a try!

Been playing around with documenting my work on Obsidian. I am now obsessed with connecting notes just so I can play with the graph view... Am I more productive? No Am I having a lot of fun? Yes

Want the vibecoding gamedev experience? Just roll a 1d20 every time you open your project. Delete the project if you roll anything but a 20. Rolling a 20 opens the project .01% faster. Saved you some money, you're welcome ๐Ÿ‘

Here's another pass on that order board UI! Tweens are so damn fun to play with. Gonna write a few more blurbs to put under the pictures later, but I really dig this so far #godot #gamedev

Haven't done a #screenshotsaturday in a while! Today I'm drafting up a new feature for the demo. The bulletin board in the Merchant's Guild will show open orders for you to pick up! These give you a chance to earn an extra reward on top of any extra coin you get from haggling ๐ŸŽฒ #gamedev #godot

Gobutiko was originally signed up to be in this coming NextFest and I had planned to get a suitable update to the demo ready for it. However it's been a rough couple weeks and that didn't pan out. So I pulled it from the event. The demo isn't going anywhere though and it'll still get that update!

I never officially announced the participation, but since I pulled it after the press release of the participating games went out I figured I should clarify. I know I could have just let it ride anyway, but I know I also won't be able to pay attention to it the way I wanted to. Next time!

Kenney Shape is now FREE! (and it'll remain free, forever) โœจ Previously a paid tool, I'm releasing it as a gift to the community. Today's update will be the final one, with no further updates planned. That way I can focus on new software & projects! kenney.itch.io/kenney-shape

So I'm trying to get a #VGenCode becasue I'd love to join Vgen as an artist! For this I would need to reach 20 reposts and 100 likes on this post, so any and all support is super appreciated๐Ÿ’œ Here are some of my favorite pieces for the occasion My vgen link: vgen.co/RentroGhost/ #pixelart ใƒป #ใƒ‰ใƒƒใƒˆ็ตต

I'm still working on the next demo update! There's a lot of stuff I want to rework so it'll be a bit, but in the meantime let's do a gamedev origin story! What's the inspiration behind Gobutiko, why the fuck is it about a goblin, and what's with the hat? Maybe longish story? We'll see

The final burning question, what's with the hat? I mean look at it! It's just fucking cute, what do you want from me? When I asked @macapixel.bsky.social to add a paper hat to the design, it was just on a whim. Now that damn hat is iconic to me, go figure!

I was really really REALLY bad at Go though. So I scrapped it for something simpler, dice. I drafted some rules based on a TCG mod I made for another game (that's a rabbit hole, but if you're familiar with my modding you'll know which one). Eventually I landed at the current haggle mechanics.

I really like shop keepers in games. Like a lot. If a merchant is playable in an RPG that's what I'll play (even if they mostly just throw money at enemies). I had a blast playing Recettear. The quirky dialog, the sudden customer swarms, capitalism ho! So naturally that's where I started.

The original prototype for haggling was pretty much just the price guessing mechanic from Recettear, but I fiddled with a lot of concepts. I even tried making one where you just played Go against your customers and captured territory is what moved the price.

I briefly considered having orders randomly come to you from customers during your shop runs, but figured this would give you a chance to evaluate the order without the pressure of having to pick it up right away. I'll work on the UI a bit more after testing the mechanic for a while!

Something I've been working lately is scaling back a lot of actions the player can do in various situations. In this case, we see the player is able to rotate objects that are being carried (if the object allows) both when idling and while thrown. I'm removing the former soon. #gamedev #godot

On the surface that seems useful. However, I notice it only caused play testers to be confused about when each was or was not allowed. So instead it remains as only within a shop area (which makes sense really, that's when you'd really use it anyway).

Sometimes less is more and the goblin in me finds that notion disgusting and terrifying! But the goblin will make due with being able to eat random leaves off the floor.

The reason is because while being able to do this without first starting the throw action (or any kind of object placement) seems convenient, in reality it just creates confusion. You only really want this when intending to place an object. I've been referring to it as "Context Confusion".

I had another action with a similar issue. Build Mode used to have two ways it could be used. The first is being inside your shop area gave access to build with the inventory stored in your area. The second was while holding a container you could use it with only the items in that container.

Ok am I misremembering something? I'm pretty sure PT had already been recreated on PC ages ago. Why is it getting hype this time?

I guess if we're doing takes on AI in coding, mine is pretty simple. I fucking LIKE doing the thing. I learned to do the thing so I could do the thing more not less. Why would I want to spend all day telling a bot to do things?

Anyone got any good note taking or documenting tools that can sync between phone and desktop? I've been taking notes across like 5 different things and it's been very messy (I kind of just grab what's nearby like a writing tablet) #gamedev #godot

Patch just went out to fix this. Sorry steam hardware users, no white box goblin for you (maybe DLC) Also, first hardware specific fix. Neat! Oh right, also some other stuff like setting run to Toggle and auto-text speed being word count specific. #gamedev #godot

Just found a bug exclusive to steam deck and steam machines. Apparently the player sprite sheet dimensions just recently exceeded the device limit. So the player appears only as a large white square. Can I haz the steam deck/machine/OS verified badge now?
