Interesting article. One takeaway: Ze would have a hard time selling a ceasefire along the current LOC (which Putin is v unlikely to agree to anyway, at least for the foreseeable future).

This post is unavailable.

Correct. And unclear there wld even be pause. Keep in mind RU doesn’t occupy much of annexed Zaporozhia and Kherson oblasts. Nor does it or would it control Kyiv.

❗️Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski emphasizes that Russia’s war against Ukraine is not only about territory. Giving up the last two cities in Donbas would bring only a temporary pause, because without Ukraine Russia loses

Important: Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a phone call with Vladimir Putin to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing peace talks. The call was "frank and substantive".

What they told Putin matters, but regardless this shld be an EU thing, not individual EUR leaders going solo.

Michael Bociurkiw@michaelbociurkiw.bsky.social

Finland's Stubb & Norway's Støre phoned Putin today, prepared with Kyiv, ahead of Abu Dhabi talks. Both sides talk of a "just" peace, but Moscow's version means Russia's interests fully met. Denmark's Frederiksen calls it an uncoordinated solo move. Either way, it’s a major development

Hmmm. Gotta agree.

The Kyiv Independent@kyivindependent.com

⚡️ Update: Denmark slams Norway-Finland call with Putin. «I actually don’t know what the two countries think can be achieved with this. I think we should stand together and speak with one voice,» Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said.

Serbia also remains one of Europe's few remaining buyers of Russian natural gas, underscoring a dependence that leaves Moscow supplying about 80% of its total gas imports. Therefore, the question of sanctions against Russia is likely to remain one of the most sensitive tests for the new government.

Romania’s domestic intelligence service (SRI) and the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) attribute last month’s fire at the Carfil factory to an act of sabotage carried out by the russian Federation.

In a better world, this might be possible if coupled with limitations on RU troop deployments. Even if Trump agreed to end/limit US presence in Poland, the Baltics, and/or Finland, other NATO states won’t go along. Also, the next POTUS cld reverse the decision bc no chance of a ratified treaty.

Yuri Ushakov, an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said in an interview with Russian state media that Moscow would have to talk to Ukraine’s European allies as Washington alone has not been able to “force Kyiv to comply,” Reuters reported.

Thread. Doubt this goes anywhere, assuming the Dems take at least the House in the midterms. My impression is that virtually all these Trump mega deals turn out to be nothing burgers (Gaza, UKR, Greenland, etc). Partial exception is Venezuela, but even that isn’t the bonanza Trump claims.

That's the right bargaining stance from Zelenskyy. The bundle of three conditions - Moscow stops bombing; Musk-Trump extend Starlink help; and Trump-Hegseth give Patriots - is the only one that makes sense, and it is the right test of American and Russian honesty.
