Also Dickie, I spent several months tracking down your real names (but never disclosing them) now AI gives them up, just for mentioning @thehotpots!!!

With that last post in mind, whilst our last attempt to take a newbie to DefCon didn’t end well, if you want to go but feel you need a little support, well you know which flights I’m on now. Just reach out.

Last years FOMO was too much too handle, so guess who has just booked to return to DefCon again next year (BTW 30k points is just £390 right now, so that makes the flights £705, not the usual £1200 !)

First ball hockey training session with Leeds Rams, first injury Still, I mugged my son during our first sift against each other, then expertly used my wrist to stop a Team GB U18 from scoring (I didn’t just get in the way, and paid the price, honest)

I wait 18 months for this to finally ship, and Evri leave it in a bush in the garden whilst I’m on holiday! (It’s a MiSTer FPGA in a PS1 style case …. Much more suited for the living room that my DE-10 MiSTer)

Jordan’s, long shorts, and a muppets themed Hawaiian shirt (and a mullet) Definitely his father’s son! Also, he’s too tall to be allowed on the water slides now … but my wife isn’t :)

With Kel playing, I’ve obviously watched a lot of ball hockey, but tonight was the first time I’ve played! Twice! Sure it was only a silly coaches & parents vs kids scrimmage, but I loved it. 54 isn’t too late to pick up a new sport is it?

I am delighted that Binface hasn’t just joined Lord Sutch in the history books, but smashed his record and been the first novelty / comedic / protest candidate to keep their deposit But now all that’s done with, can we get back to the investigation into Farage’s donations please

3 episodes in and I have to say ‘Stewart Fails to Save the World’ is far better than it has any right being. ‘Big Bang Theory minor characters do Sliders’ it a terrible premise, but somehow it works as a quirky silly self-aware sci-fi comedy. The episodes are too short though!

Went up on Torrisholme Barrow for the first time since I was a kid, at ai don’t think I’ve ever seen the view to clear. Ingleborough, Clougha, Williamson’s Park, Heysham Power Staton, Morecambe Bay. All visible from one spot

Most years I’d be at defcons linecon introducing people to Benedictine. I’m not there this year, but I’ve just spotted it in smokestack, so I’ve just introduced these two amazing people to it!

1st day of the week long Bradford Bulldogs hockey camp. I suspect he’ll look a little differently next Saturday! Glad he’s finally ditched the Crocs for sliders (even if they are mine!)

I came back from EMF camp to a mostly dead main daily-driver PC. A week later not only do I have even more screen real estate, I’m gaming at a solid 60fps for the first time, well, ever probably (at least on my own PC hardware)

Anyone I know got an Apple developer program membership, and would be up for using it in a demo of a small open source app for signing wallet entries? I really don’t want to pay $99 a year for something that isn’t likely to be used more than a few dozen times.

Any of my old school phone hackery friends got a spare distybox they are willing to sell or loan? (Or indeed any DECT to FXS adapter)? EMF Camp has inspired me to dig out some old analogue kit, but I just can’t find my distybox

Before I head to Decathlon or Go Outdoors, nobody has a mid size tent they’d be prepared to lend more for EMF Camp do they? I have a couple of ‘festival’ 2-man tents but EMF looks like I need to take a tonne of stuff, so much bigger is better.

I’ve had some highlights of this trip, being sat in a Man Utd bar, listening to Morrissey, watching Argentina beat Austria is not one of them

Malort drinkers, Benedictine drinkers, pálenka, Becherovka, Slivovice and Chacha drinkers. If I was running a one-night ‘undrinkable local filth’ evening of the hardest hardcore foul drinks from around the world, what drink would YOU add to our bar?

As we get ever closer to Saturday and the conference day, we wanted to put out another huge thank you to all of our fantastic sponsors ❤️ Genuinely, BSides Leeds would not be able to run without your support. We're so grateful that you were keen to be involved and help us make this happen!

Vibe-coding is ruining me. My desktop is collecting vscode windows like they are chrome tabs. All things ‘I’ll come back and finish properly later’ deep down knowing I never will

One thing nobody tells you about running a conference, the sheer amount of stuff you amass in the run up, and this is with most of the bulky ‘for participants’ stuff (the stuff we have 400 of each of) being at Grom’s!

I did say I’d post about my side projects more often, well for a few months they all get put aside, whilst I become one of the team behind BSides Leeds. We’re just one week away, so time to go and rescue the BSides organisers essentials box from the loft!

Every time I come across people trying to implement security controls (not just guardrails) in an LLM system prompt, this image comes to mind

Yesterday he came from Hockey Camp saying ‘I worked hard today but didn’t get MVP, so tomorrow I’m gonna work my ass off and make sure I get it’ A few minutes ago he just posted this to Insta. So proud of the little guy these days!
