Dolmen de la Pierre Fouquerée, Ardillières, France : In the middle of a farmers field. Legend is that a long ago farmer tried to remove it: a full day for only one side, the next day it was back up and the farmer died in horrible suffering #StandingStoneSunday fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_...
Second #StandingStoneSunday from me today! Inspired by @tatuvaljakka.bsky.social‘s earlier post, I was already going to Uppsala today, made the detour. Thank you! 😜😉 The “Nonsense Runestone”: highly unusual, carved by an illiterate master or apprentice who used rune letters as … decorative elements
These are most likely iron age, but still stones and standing. Lillängens Gravfält, Uppsala #StandingStoneSunday
«All this presents a productivity puzzle. Some hospitals seem to be faring worse with more resources. Australia: workforce grew ~20% from 2019-24, elective surgeries are basically flat—the only difference is that the sick are waiting longer to be seen… in England, productivity is below pre-pandemic»
The diagnosis is simple: “Our health-care system broke in 2020.” Hospitals are stuck in a deadly doom loop. They never recovered from #COVID19. www.economist.com/internationa... via @theeconomistnews.bsky.social

Almost 20 years ago, I warned we were heading toward a world where states invade each other at will, and that America had an obligation to restore the higher bar for going to war. Not gonna say I told ya so, but...well, okay, I will. There's a reason I chose these quotes to open the book.

Dec. 31, 1775: The Americans’ make-or-break attempt to capture Quebec City and with it all of British Canada opens at about 5 a.m. in a blinding snowstorm. The assault opens with Capt. Jacob Brown firing on the Cape Diamond bastion and launching two rockets as a signal to the rest of the army. 1/7

#OTD December 31 1775, the Battle of Quebec, in which American general Richard Montgomery was killed, American general Benedict Arnold was wounded, and most American forces taken prisoner wikipedia article is thorough, as usual -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_...

On this day in 1775, Benedict Arnold led the Continental Army's assault on Quebec City. He hoped to destroy the British stronghold and prevent potential attacks from the north. Everything went wrong. Watch our clip from THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.

#OTD Dec. 31, 1775, the newly-formed Continental Army tried and failed to take Quebec City and with it Canada or the Province of Quebec. American troops had already taken Montreal and Trois-Rivières and only needed to capture and hold Quebec City to make Canada the 14th colony.

Dec. 31, 1775: With their defeat in Quebec City the Continental Army suffers its worst defeat of 1775. Its casualties amount to nearly half the men on the battlefield: 48 dead, 34 wounded and 372 captured. The British have suffered just five dead and 14 wounded from a much larger force. 1/5

The Death of General Montgomery in the Attack on Quebec, December 31, 1775, oil painting by John Trumbull 1786 It depicts the tragic death of the American General during the Invasion of Quebec, a major military operation by the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. It was a failure.
250 years ago today, more than Elbows Up: Changed the course of history
Dec. 31, 1775: The main thrust of today's American attack on Quebec City comes from the 600 men led by Col. Benedict Arnold. As they mount their assault on the north side of Lower Town they are unaware that the rest of their army is being routed, and their commander has been killed. 1/8

This should be front-page news (as it is in The Netherlands). BTW, the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) was the agency that infiltrated Cozy Bear (APT 29) and gave crucial info to FBI (and relied on by Mueller investigation and SSCI).
The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service has stopped sharing certain information with the United States: “Sometimes we no longer share things,” officials say, because the information has been finding its way into Kremlin hands. www.volkskrant.nl/binnenland/n...
