Shannon Stettner explores the Woodside National Historic Site, the childhood home of PM William Lyon Mackenzie King. The visit highlights portrayals of gender, specifically through the material environment. Shannon is a regular contributor to Active History; make sure to check out her other posts!

Shouting into the internet void that I just submitted my book manuscript revisions. The Trans-Canada Air Lines book is happening! (At least, it’s on the path to ‘happening.’) It’s WILD that I started academic research on TCA in TWO THOUSAND AND TEN. Four academic institutions ago.

I have been asked for an interview: "We’re developing tools to make research more efficient, including exploring responsible uses of AI, and want to learn directly from genealogists about their process, resources, and time-consuming tasks." Not interested in training AI, but..... thoughts?

The story being referred to is The Green Death (1973) and is so sadly relevant half a century on. Plus: slightly adorable giant-pollution spawned maggots.

I heard it said that a cheating husband will often accuse his wife of being unfaithful. So when the US ambassador to Canada said Canada had to keep out of the American elections, I instantly thought that was a confirmation that was exactly what they were doing in Canada.

The election is Monday, and I want to thank the candidates running in the Hull district for doing absolutely nothing to convince me to vote for them. Nothing. So again it is a beauty contest - which election poster is the nicest, the lamest slogan, and the prettiest candidate. You people suck.

2nd robocall for the election today. The 1st was from Que Solidaire saying I will love its policies - without saying what they were. The 2nd one was from the CAQ incumbent asking for my labour in her campaign- volunteers. Apparently not interested in my vote, because that wasn't even mentioned.
