We need a new political party to champion the cause of Liberty and Justice For All, one that recognizes Liberty as the absence of unjust authority of any kind and Justice as an exercise of love, not spite - a party whose structure ensures timely accountability and responsiveness to compelling causes

Anat Shenker-Osorio@anatosaurus.bsky.social

The structures and tools that helped get us into this aren't going to be leading the way out of it.

This is exemplary of my failures to communicate. I present a series of points - because they convey quickly and clearly - and expect that others can draw the connective lines. It turns out, though, this is often seen as a series of non sequiturs. My dots make a cloud... even when there's only two.

Inevitably, when someone invents time travel a time traveler appears and kills them. - or - World War IV was fought concurrently with World War II and Hitler was the truce.

Permission is the root of power. Politics is the art of getting and withdrawing permission. Government is the permission structures our political system currently supports. Liberty is those permissions all may presume without process. Justice is those permissions none shall presume without process.

Allowing an 'edit' button could open up unexpected cans of worms - for example, you could make a series of posts that link to one another and then edit the first to link to the last, making a loop of what ought be a linear experience.

While this example poses no obvious problem on it's own, it is convenient to programing to be able to exclude the whole category or possibilities - to leave the can closed, whatever might have come out of it. That said, I think it would open no cans if only our most recent post were editable.

@etymonline.bsky.social 'Optimum' and 'optimize' need antonyms, as in '[to solve for] the worst combination of a set of parameters'. I coin today, 'pessimum' and 'pessimize'!

Scabby Don't@generalmonkey.bsky.social

To say the least, those who run for office on variations of "the government is the problem" are incentivized to sabotage - in particular, to ensure that every voter-facing function is the pessimum of tedious and capricious. (I wasn't sure this would be worth posting until I invented 'pessimum' 😀 )

Permission is the foundation of power, which is the ability to pay opportunity cost. Politics is the art of getting (or withdrawing) permission; government is the permission-structures our political system currently sponsors. Government is collective management of the risk of impossibility.

Our apprehension of the possible depends upon perception, position, and presumption, so access to opportunity is always naturally inequitably distributed. Government function necessitates revealing the obscure, improving the fluidity of our positions, and curating a healthy set of presumptions.

Hyperior Rip Imagine Earth as a hypersphere - the surface of the hypersphere is Earth's volume, Earth's surface is a small region of the hypersphere's surface, as is the Earth's core, directly opposite the surface, and the rest is a gradient between those. The hypersphere's volume is Earth's mass.

If Earth is compressed to the diameter of a U.S. Quarter-dollar, it will collapse into a black hole. As this happens, the hypersphere does not shrink, because the mass does not change. As the Earth's real-space volume shrinks, its hypersphere surface attenuates. Event horizons come from the rip.

I think this might be a good way to think about time dilation. As the Earth shrinks travel distance is reduced from the perspective of the surface, but from outside the hypersphere it is evident that travel time has increased proportionally - smaller distances are still stretched over the same mass.

I've a well-polished craze, which I finally elucidated in 300-character increments - ~3 of them.

Self-similarity might assist us if the universe's creation resembles our own efforts to create: a sea of loose concepts collapsing through shared context into a causality star - our slice of the causality star derives from the synergistic collision of the concepts of fluidity and persistence.

All of human history is a planchette scribbling on a blank canvas, everyone's hand is pushing, everyone struggling to make sense of all the scribbles that came before, barely aware of the faded scribbles beneath and around it all.

In the moment, human existence consists of most hands contributing to holding aloft the vast weight of consequence, but with vast disagreement about which way it should roll, and sometimes the hands beneath it prove too few and they are lost to consequence.

A Great Con Make transportation so affordable for enough generations that society is built around the ability to casually pass a day's walk in half an hour, then price most people out of casual travel and watch the tapestry fall to loose threads.

We need social media that serves as an engine of local party creation and an organizing framework by which those parties can coordinate political action at the state and national levels. Define parties by ranking the priorities listed in the Preamble. Leaders prove residence, vouch other members in.

When a policy proposal gets majority approval in a party's forum it can move to the locality's forum; if it's a state or national policy proposal then majority local approval moves it to the state's forum, from which majority approval can move it to the federal forum. Name Proposal: For All

Schrodinger's Catanglement Put a cat in a box and close it. Divide the box with a pair of adjacent blades into two boxes with blades for lids. Distribute the boxes to parties which part ways. Now either party can open their own box and have a pretty good idea whether or not the cat is still alive.

Godzilla does not wipe his feet and has poor table manners. Trying to drive him into the sea is a waste of missiles - let's just focus on calling out the effect his attack has on prices. Vote for us or he'll eat your city next!

Donald Trump is a liar and a loser.

Invest early in the mining frenzy that will ensue during the million years or so following our transit through the galactic plane - the solar system is doing most of the work for us! Also, though, it'll prevent all those new planetesimals from becoming new waves of mass extinction as they shatter.

The law assumes human-scale violation. The exploit operates at administrative/machine scale. This mismatch disables redress. That's the con.

That the settlement can be described as theft from us all, and also as criminals benefiting from their crime, are very salacious points; the salient point is that we are now a nation purely of Executive fiat, prison or riches at whim - Congress's power and the court's power are both utterly usurped.

The old tug-of-war between Democrats and Republicans has been hijacked by Russia tugging Republicans and Israel tugging Democrats, and they don't pull against each other, they drag us to the tar pit they prepared for us: Iran; for decades Israel was their cause to fortify and Russia was their means.

Any line you imagine the regime won't cross is something they will definitely transgress just to see the look on your face. I've heard it said they respect nothing, but they go far beyond that: anything that anyone respects becomes a target to transgress unto destruction for depraved schadenfreude.

It's transducers all the way down. Free will is an illusion, proof of the supernatural, or both to varying degrees. If anyone has ever experienced the divine then anyone can - accept no substitutes for your own experience, nor tempt anyone to accept your story as a substitute for having their own.

It's not too late for the Democratic Party to split into Progressives and Traditionalists, draw all the Republicans who wish they weren't fascists into the Traditionalists, and present a decisive majority to scrub the fascists out of power by impeachment and expulsion. No need to wait for elections!

In another universe, the latest Bondi hearing started with a statement from the Democratic Chair: "We saw how you treated the Senate Democrats, so we didn't bring our good faith today. We brought zingers. You are going to sit there while we make fun of you until we get tired of it. You may resign."

Most look a the sea and have already seen, but some peer into the depths - they'd be called fools if not for the timely warnings they sometimes give. False Enlightenment ensues when one, wishing to emulate the wise, finds in the depths their own reflection and, this being superior to most, settles.

One of the root dysfunctions of our Union is the belief/expectation that our federal legislators should try to get federal resources into their states, but that makes a pathological institution. Our federal legislators should be focused on what's best for the Union.

States have their own legislatures that should be focused on the state, not each member for their hometown. Towns have councils that should do what's best for the town, not each for their own neighborhood. We demand this institutional pathology by our willingness to accept this kind of pandering.

We are, no doubt, going to primary all the feckless Democrats. However, the ballot access belongs to the DNC, and they are going to tell the Secretaries of State to put the incumbents and the feckless on the ballots. That is when violence will begin, and it is the shed toward which they herd us.

That is why we must instead establish new voter-owned parties in every locality that can federate to secure their own ballot access and present their own candidates for higher offices. This is how we break out of the chute that's guiding us into the slaughterhouse.

For reference, because apparently court transcripts aren't served (this specific example is in reference to the Presidential ballot - I think maybe the state's federal offices are owned by the state's chapter of the Democratic Party, but I wouldn't trust them not to obey Order 66):

It is not enough to refuse illegal orders: those who gave illegal orders should be immediately taken into custody, the chain of command rolled up like a criminal organization by the soldiers on the spot, up to the order's origin.

Similarly, when a law enforcement officer exceeds or abuses their authority, any law enforcement officers who witnesses it and takes no action to prevent it and to take the abuser into custody is complicit in their excesses.

Looks like we have a new de facto party leader.

I’m impeaching Secretary Noem for violating public trust. Secretary Noem is a liar. She lied about the shootings in Chicago, and she lied about the shooting in Minneapolis. We need transparent federal investigations that include state and local officials to keep the public informed and assured.

It has been established by law enforcement that a moving vehicle constitutes a deadly weapon - it is thus the practice of bad cops to stand in front of a vehicle so that if it moves they can respond with deadly force. This is not the first time, just ICE's first time.

Not so 'first' after all.

Dan Silverman@dmsilverman.bsky.social

Wow. This is from a 2013 internally commissioned research report on CBP’s use of deadly force It seems CBP/ICE has had a culture of blocking and shooting at vehicles for quite some time now

The Quaternion of Inauthenticity: Cringe, Irony, Sarcasm To be sarcastically ironic is cringe, to be ironically sarcastic is anticringe. (I think the point of diminishing returns in fun to be had from this has been reached before the other rotations are considered, but go ahead 😶 )

Venezuela is cause to Impeach Trump, Vance, Hegseth, Rubio, and Bondi, but not urgent. The urgent cause to Impeach is to prevent them from attacking our NATO allies, starting in Greenland - that is an unmistakable betrayal of American interests, and stating intent to that effect is cause to Impeach.

Better for all the conservatives in politics to be replaced with historians, the liberals with science fiction authors, and the moderates with teachers and comedians, but the historians, authors, teachers, and comedians would never seek the job because of the politicians they'd have to work with.

Justice denied is worse than injustice applied. Justice denied will perpetuate until sufficient injustice is applied that everyone will settle for justice again - Justice for All, and no being picky about 'All'. We'll soon be hearing that 'tainted wells' of evidence result in unjust prosecutions.
