Becky Gehrisch - kidlit picture books

Hi all! I just joined recently and I'm excited to be here on BlueSky to chat about illustrating, picture books, writing, art, school visits, library news, events, and sometimes my cats! 😂🤗😺 Below is a picture of me and my mouse character puppet that I take to school visits!

Always finding something inspiring when I chat with creatives! Neil Parsons shared amazing insight!

This episode was jammed packed with great insight! Check it out !

I've never seen such unique costume designs! Listen in to this episode to hear how it all comes together behind-the-scenes with Lisa Rauch, Walk Act Artist!

BIG NEWS! We are thrilled to welcome Fiona Miller to our author-illustrator family! 🎨 Known for colorful, detail-rich worlds built from hand-drawn ink + watercolor! ✨ We are thrilled to bring your picture book to life in the coming year! Welcome to the team, @fionamillerart.bsky.social 🩵

I left this conversation with Mike Zagari feeling genuinely inspired! There's something about his honesty on burnout and reinvention that I keep thinking about.

So happy to have you on the podcast, @rednosestudio.bsky.social !!

Every interview that I have is inspiring to me as an artist and this episode is no different! I am privileged to have Chris Sickels @rednosestudio.bsky.social on the show!

In this episode, @rednosestudio.bsky.social pulls back the curtain on how his characters come to life + the lessons he's picked up about staying curious, embracing vulnerability, and never stopping growing as an artist! 🔗 Link to the episode in the comments!

I painted some rocks. Now, back to painting the picture book!

I love that Larry wanted to include this riddle and prize. He was inspired by a picture book when he was growing up. What a fun way to be a part of the book and interact with the author-illustrator!

I'm excited for next Tuesday's episode to come out! I interviewed an amazing 3-D illustrator and stop-motion artist!

This was a treat! Brielle shared some amazing insights as a professional stained-glass artist for others other there who are pursing the arts!

I based the quilt in my (unfinished) painting on this beautiful quilt in the antique store's window. Much to my surprise my mother-in-law bought it for me for an early birthday present!! So sweet! I love it!!!

Did you know I host a creativity podcast? Check it out for some inspiration!

I have been listening to Rossano Galante's concert band scores for a while. They are amazing. I came to find out he also orchestrated the Mario Movie soundtracks among many others! Take a listen!

I must admit I forget every time how long these paintings take. 😂 In my 1st attempt (2nd image), I got pretty far except that I wasn't sure what I was doing with the light. It just wasn't what I was going for. 🎨 All I need now is for the last quilt to be designed. 🪡It will be a surprise. 💥

Gizmo isn't making this easy today!

This adorable kitty portrait was done as a Christmas present commission! I love drawing animals and Lucy was no exception. Honored to have been able to draw her. Soft pastels and pastel pencil on Pastelmat. 9"x12"

I had such a fun time at the "Drawn to Stories" exhibit at Gallery 22 in Delaware, Ohio!! All of the various artists' pieces together made my heart happy. I love illustration and being a kid at heart for my career!

Ready to meet kids and sign books this weekend at the Lehner's Pumpkin Farm! I love crocheting these hats!

This episode has a sound bite of guest, George Schlub's, one-of-a-kind trumpets being played! Listen in!

@taralazar.bsky.social Hi Tara! Are you taking book submissions for your blog? Thanks!

As adults, we are so hard on ourselves, demanding that whatever we do should produce results, or it’s not worth doing. We have every activity categorized and measured. And play - it is when you do something just for the sake of doing it.

Next Tuesday, on The Origins of Creativity we chat with a Master Craftsman who creates one-of-a-kind instruments! Brought to you by @booklingmedia

I've been busy painting away among other things! What have you been doing to keep your mind busy?

I had a blast interviewing @brianlies.bsky.social in the latest episode of the Origins of Creativity Podcast! Check it out!
