Thanks #BSidesPDX for letting me present my #Infosec presentation Friday – “Death by a Thousand Paper Cuts”. I made a data broker pay for my MOVEit breach cleanup time, no lawyer required. Class actions pay lawyers. Small claims pays you. Good audience 14 steps + court docs: gandalfddi.github.io...

#Australia, Blue Mountains January 2026 with the #ThreeSisters. #Nature #Photography. They look blue because of the haze formed when the eucalyptus forest’s natural emissions react in sunlight into fine particles that scatter blue light, deepened by distance.

"No new wars" was the deal. Now: Iran, a Marine unit headed to the Gulf, troops moving into Latin America. And in December, Selective Service starts auto-registering every man 18-25 and mailing a letter saying so. You're on the list either way. Vote like your life depends on it. It may #Midterms2026

Beautiful #Motorcycle #Motosky but... "Pricing has yet to be announced, but something in excess of the AMB 001’s $100,000 starting price seems likely." Ouch

That's what #Motorcycle riding is all about :-)

Story time. Met a random rider on the road, we synced up so well that we rode together for the next 3 days where she showed me some amazing places and shared her banana bread with me. What a win! #motorcycles #touringstories #motosky

Two new pages on the #SpaceHistory #SpaceShuttle #NASA #SpaceFlight archive. The first is OMI V1202 - the Main Propulsion helium signature test. Seal the aft, pressurize everything with helium, and measure what leaks. The aft compartment IS the instrument. See:

Still missing: the V1202 and S0017VL1 OMIs themselves. I have tapes of us working the procedures and no copy of the procedures. If one survived in somebody's garage, I would like to hear about it.

The second is the Complex 39 OIS channel list, off a 1988 pocket card. Channel numbers, console callsigns, who sits where. If you have ever listened to a launch processing tape and wondered who was talking - this is the reference. See:

Little Si, 26 January 2019. Valley fog still holding below the ridgeline, contrail overhead, boot in frame for scale. The Cascades give you maybe a dozen mornings like this between November and March, and this was one of them. #PNW winter hiking is 90% mud and 10% this. #Nature #Photography

International Childfree Day. Some people pass down a bloodline. I'm passing down a Shuttle archive, a pile of #Motorcycle trip reports and a motorcycle playlist. Gene pool ends with me. The documentation does not. #Motosky

On my Kayak, Cottage Lake Washington. Until 1979 this was Norm's Resort - swimming, picnics, a bait shop with a sign reading "Norm's Got Worms." Seattle people drove out here for the weekend. Now it is ringed with 3,000+ sq ft houses and private docks. Progress, allegedly. #Nature #Photography #PNW

True happiness: a bike, a full tank, and the open road. Oregon 205 south of Frenchglen, 1 June 2019. Past the Steens Loop turnoff, weather stacking up over the mountain, and about forty miles of nothing between me and it. The open road of the western United States #Motorcycle #Motosky #Oregon

Langlois Lake by kayak this afternoon – low-to-mid-90s (33C) on shore but the good kind of hot once you're on the water. A little hazy, courtesy of #Canada forests arriving by air (best of luck for our neighbors up north, hopefully rain soon). Glass-flat and quiet. #Nature #Photography #PNW

Bay of Martyrs, Great Ocean Road, Victoria. January 2026. The name isn't poetic license - local history holds that settlers drove Girai wurrung people from these cliffs in the 1840s. Beautiful and brutal in the same frame. #Nature #Photography #Australia

Throwback: July 2014, my first bike – the 2000 Triumph Sprint – with buddy Bill and his Ducati Diavel at the Y where SR 123 meets Chinook Pass. Decision point: over the pass or down toward Rainier. Either answer is correct. #Motorcycle #Motosky #PNW #ChinookPass

Denali Park Road, Mile 9, July 2024. Fireweed in bloom, spruce over open taiga, and that faint white mass on the right horizon is Denali itself – 70 miles out and cloud-free for once. The mountain makes its own weather; roughly 1 in 3 visitors ever sees the summit. We got lucky. #Nature #Photography

Columbia River from the Wild Horse Monument overlook, looking upstream past Vantage. The climb up the trail is loose gravel and regret, but the view is why you do it anyway. October light on channeled scabland - the Missoula Floods did good work here. October 2024 #Motorcycle #Motosky

Toklat River, Denali Park Road, July 2024. This is what a glacial river does when nobody makes it choose a lane ... braided channels wandering across a gravel bed wide enough to lose a bus in. Every spring melt the river redraws the map, and the road crew gets to find out where it went this time.

1/ On #Anthropic and #Mythos: the capability claims appear real. The "too dangerous to release" framing is PR doing double duty as safety posture. Both can be true simultaneously. We've seen this movie before — GPT-2, 2019. Hold both reads at once. My 🧵

7/ Lifting EVERYBODIES boats takes funded people, not more tools. Permanent technical staff that know Cybersecurity, embedded help, Idaho National Laboratory-style outreach. Grants that buy SIEMs and consultants miss the target, expertise is needed to run them. The gap is humans who can read the logs

8/ Summary: capability is real, framing is spun, disclosure debate settled the rules decades ago, lift the boats with people not tools. The load-bearing failure isn't AI. It's thirty years of decaying civic infrastructure. AI just sped up the clock for ALL of us. You stop learning you start dying.

5/ #InfoSec half-life used to be measured in years. Now months. A program that isn't continuously refreshed is already out of date. AI-class vuln discovery accelerates this. The load-bearing variable is refresh pace, not just the tooling. Use that same "weapons grade" AI to create defender tools.

6/ The real problem isn't the model. The bottom three quartiles of defenders, those IT-turned-Cybersecurity in rural hospitals, municipal utilities, school districts, and small public infrastructure can't operationalize any of it. Not won't. Can't. Nobody's in the seat. They don't know these tools.

3/ Plato had the frame: pharmakon. Same word means "remedy" and "poison.", applied to written word. Dual-use is the original tech ethics problem. A tool can be good or bad. The Greeks didn't solve it by refusing to write, you reason about how, and to whom. Mythos is a pharmakon. Same rules.

4/ Withholding doesn't keep capability from attackers. Proliferation happens, 0-Days escape, parallel research creating another Mythos, open-weights catch-up, exfiltration of THEORY to nation-states. Defenders get handcuffed for N months. Attackers don't. The math inverts and hurts blue teams.

2/ None of this is new. The 90s/00s vulnerability disclosure wars covered the same ground. After years of fighting we landed on responsible disclosure with binding timelines. The principle held. We shouldn't have to refight it. Nothing new under the sun
