Nick Black

I really like, no, honestly I LOVE these stories I wrote over the years, so I'm selling them for a cost-covering £4 (inc UK p&p) to get them read: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/26752117... They're on Amazon, too. Either way, I really hope one or two more of you get to see 'em. #booksky #amwriting #books

#amreading #nowreading (alongside @markabowles.bsky.social HOW DO PEOPLE STAY THE SAME, brain-brightening, satisfying!): SISTER EUROPE- Nell Zink I don't know if she sells more than I think but can't help but feel she should be wider read/discussed. Plugged-in, zingy zesty, fun. #booksky 📚💙

Love Nell Zink. And I agree, she deserves to be better known!

'As with all good writing, this collection is deceptively easy to read, seemingly light in tone at times but don’t be fooled, Nick Black understands what makes us human & beneath every story lurks a hint of darkness. It really does show the Positive & Negative of us all' @theliterarypig.bsky.social

... and if anyone wants to buy a copy online, please do! "This is a collection immersed in experience, uneased by existence but bursting with life." - @ajosephblack.bsky.social www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267521176850 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1915247128/ #amselling #amwriting #shortstories #booksky

If any UK #bookshops #booksellers would be willing to take a couple of copies, I'd very happily send them to you and you can keep all revenue if they sell. I just want more people to read my stories. SUPER SLIM, a whisker, a wafer, side-on on a bookshelf. Please let me know! #booksky #books

Ooh! Thanks, Liz. For a thundererously thumping good read, full of laugh-out-loud comedy, terror, character, heartbreak & excitement, LONESOME DOVE - Larry McMurtry (even if you don't normally like Westerns.) For clever, dark, horror-adjacent Scooby Gang fun, NIGHT FILM - Marisha Pessl.

What a magnificent band they were. vimeo.com/818383620

So much moon on my walk; I passed a house with the top window reflecting the near full moon, while the window itself giggled - the sound of a child being sent to bed with a story. Another house and the family were all outside on the pavement, taking turns to look through a telescope at the moon.

Hey you. Christmas is coming sooner than you think. Why not buy the book lover in your life the first two parts of what literally nobody is calling my Outsider Trilogy. Details on my website. www.rob-chapman.com

@kirkdalebooks.bsky.social Did you ever say which de Lillo you wanted to reread?

This afternoon's film

Time Out Chicago was my first writing gig and I miss it every day. It especially stung that they deleted their archives before any of us could save our published pieces.

On Saturday afternoon I picked up Nick Heyward’s newly published autobiography and I simply couldn’t put it down until the small hours of the following morning. Here’s why. www.patreon.com/posts/173424...

Mind you, it’s also 175 years since the London Athenaeum said “This is an ill-compounded mixture of romance and matter-of-fact. The idea of a connected and collected story has obviously visited and abandoned its writer ... so much trash belonging to the worst school of Bedlam literature”

It’s 175 years since the London John Bull said of Moby Dick: “Who would have looked for philosophy in whales, or for poetry in blubber. Yet few books which professedly deal in metaphysics, or claim the parentage of the muses, contain as much true philosophy and as much genuine poetry...”

London 'Time Out' was an essential read in my younger life - I can still recall the weekly excitement at seeing a new issue on sale. @gabrielkahane.bsky.social's essay beautifully evokes an era when listing magazines were an integral, dynamic part of the culture and of going out. A great read.

The Who: Pete Townshend, about to catch a guitar he’d hurled into the air, Roger Daltrey & Keith Moon, San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, late March 1976, by Michael Zagaris.

Tickled to have received the ASCAP Virgil Thompson Award for Outstanding Music Criticism for my 2025 essay in The Atlantic, "A Love Letter to Music Listings,” not least because it’s not a piece of music criticism. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Last night's film

Chatham Square Station, New York, 1941, by Arnold Eagle.

Should I stop after 2 episodes, though, @mariephillips.bsky.social, just to be safe?

"Brighton girls are like the moon". One of the most luminous and unfathomably moving Dylan lines (and line readings).

Thrilled to be in January House! If you have a moment, give ”This Eleanor” a read!

Great pilot episode! #PHONY (Hulu/Disney+)

To the guy behind me at the stoplight frantically waving his copy of Vineland for me to see in my rear view mirror, the sighting of which caused me to manically laugh and put me in a good-ass mood for the entire day: HELL YEAH BRO

Happy 54th anniversary of the day Roger Moore recorded this in his Live and Let Die filming diary www.google.co.uk/books/editio...

Behind its rather oldschool cover, albeit gawd bless The Kinks, April 22nd 1977’s New Musical Express featured substantial pieces on the newly-born 2000AD & the first Clash album. Which is one reason why, for some of us, punk and 2000AD felt like they belonged to the same rebellious cultural moment.

How have I never seen this before? youtu.be/NnEzkeaopmA?...

Great to see @ellipsiszine.bsky.social back & great to have a spotlight on #HistoricalFlash. Thrilled to have my piece included. Looking forward to catching up on other stories, after being under the weather for a while. #FlashFiction

Thank you Nick, I must revisit early Roxy Music!!

Inexplicably one of my favorite songs this year truly a band where I can never doubt their commitment to Sparkle Motion www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oDE...

GOOD BAND GOOD ALBUM ALERT.

Rolled the dice and bought 2 tickets for #Digger based on Neil Young's response neilyoungarchives.com/news/digger/ - thanks, Neil! We had no intention of going and have come back shaken, moved, heads reeling.

.... ordered after a fly-by mention in @markabowles.bsky.social's superlative 'How Do People Stay The Same' (@galleybeggars.bsky.social) - an early Roxy Music album of a novel, more interesting ideas and thoughts per page than many writers have in their whole career.

Right now you can go see Digger in the theaters, and I recommend that you do so.

digger is actually VERY good

I can’t believe Jesus invented that staring-into-the-camera-when-somebody-is-being-extra thing they do in mockumentary sitcoms!
