Fun Fact Science with Kovi

Woke up to a bunch of new followers so it might be worth reintroducing myself: My name is Kovi (pronounced like ☕️) and I'm an #astrophysics PhD candidate with a passion for #science communication. I search the skies with radio #telescopes to find and study weird (and often exploding) stuff 📡🌌

robo vac has started unplugging the wifi router on Friday afternoons. not sure if it is encouraging me to finish work early or if the revolution has begun

Thanks for coming on the show @cosmobiologist.bsky.social ! It's always fun to dive deep into the science (and philosophy) of astrobiology 🤓🧪🔭

Had a blast chatting with @sci-stasia.bsky.social and @sammymarine_b about everything from Astrology to Aristotle! open.spotify.com/episode/6MM5...

🎉 Congratulations to OzGrav’s Dr Laura Driessen, a 2026 NSW Young Tall Poppy Science Award winner! A fantastic recognition of Laura’s research and commitment to science communication. Congratulations, Laura! 🌟 🔗 aips.org.au/tall-poppies... #OzGrav #TallPoppyAwards #Astronomy #WomenInSTEM

@plutokiller.com thanks, now I feel old

didn't even have time to recover from a weekend of scicomm before diving back into astronomy 🔭 after running three amazing science comedy shows this weekend, I some how found myself spending the night/morning remote observing with one of my favourite radio telescopes 📡 zero complaints.

Are millisecond Pulsars, nature's cosmic clocks, as stable as we once thought? A new study by @rami.spaceaustralia.com has reported the discovery of two consecutive profile change events on PSR J0437-4715. www.spaceaustralia.com/feature/disc... 📸 NASA SVS #SpaceAustralia #RadioAstronomy 🔭🧪📡

OPENING NIGHT! Tonight we embark on our new experiment in science engagement, with a healthy dash of comedy thrown in!

🚨 Has dark matter finally been detected? New Astrophiz ep242 w/ astroparticle physicist @astropartigirl.bsky.social — we break down the LUX-ZEPLIN signal, her Roman Space Telescope launch experience, and self-interacting dark matter. 🎧 tinyurl.com/romanlaunch1 #DarkMatter #Astronomy

If you live in Sydney and like science, comedy and everything in between.... come see our show next weekend! sydneyfringe.com/events/scien...

Super serious stuff.

We are offering a new round of 4 Physics Foundation PhD scholarships @sydney.edu.au Available in any area of #physics or #astronomy. Please send to any students (domestic and international) who may be interested. Deadline 18th October. ⚛️ ☄️ www.sydney.edu.au/scholarships...

This trip was so incredible that I unfortunately lost count of the number of bagels and pizza slices that I ate. From an unforgettable wedding in NYC to presenting my research in Montreal, a huge thank you to everyone who made it possible 🙏

At the @vrubinobs.bsky.social , snow clearing continues under bright blue skies. So good to see how progress is being made at the summit following the devastating recent snow storms. Power is being restored and services are coming back online. Watch this space... 🌞 ❄️ 🔭

PhD thesis submitted 😬

Update: I bought them a lovely houseplant that I'm certain the customs agent would have hated.

Airport security: Where are you staying Me: my cousin's security: did you bring any gifts for your cousins? Me: uhh no? Security: this is good for customs. But bad for your cousins.

Thrilled to share that we made the cover of @natastron.nature.com!!! 🔭💥☄️ The artwork, designed in collaboration with @ozgrav.bsky.social, features a rendering of the magnetic field simulation from our white dwarf binary paper. Check it out here: www.nature.com/natastron/vo...

Why I don't think CD-35 2722B has an "exomoon"...

The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).

🚨 NEW EPISODE 🚨 A mystery solved that's baffled astronomers for years 🌌 I chat with Kovi Rose @funfactscience.com (@USyd / CSIRO) to discuss his stellar "Rosetta Stone" a chaotic, cannibalistic star system shedding secrets of Long Period Transients. Listen: tinyurl.com/kovilpt #Astronomy #Space

We've discovered another long period transient with ASKAP! Source #15 in this small but growing population. It repeats every 36 minutes, but despite many observations (see plot) we're not sure what it is. New paper by Joshua Pritchard: doi.org/10.1017/pasa... #radioastro

😢

Mission complete 🫡

Have to shout-out @innaosmol.bsky.social for gifting me this one 😊

Saturday morning: remote observing + thesis writing. Saturday afternoon: lego + stargate
