I find myself working from the couch more, rather than at my desk. This is great for the most part since I can use any other device to ssh into my Dev machine The problem is the web browser, especially on a device that isn't mine, doesnt have access to my passwords My fix is in the comments 👇

I'm going to build a minimal LXC container that just has a GUI environment, #librewolf, #keepassxc, #syncthing, and remote access services That way, no matter where i am or what device I'm on, I'll have full access to the browser and tools I need.

It took a long time to find a note taking system that worked for me. I didn't need another app, I needed a clean and systematic process. Now that I found one, I share it here:

2. Proper Storage Location Permanent and version controlled location. It's structure should be decided beforehand so it doesn't become just another file dump. The documentation for all my software projects follows the same templated structure, so it's easy to know where any type of note belongs.

On a regular basis, say every morning, collect all handwritten/quick notes, and enter them into the permanent storage location. In my case, this is a normal folder with markdown notes, tracked by git, which I edit either on the terminal directly, or with #Obsidian for the rare times I use a GUI.

1. Quick Notes/Scratchpad: Any random idea or thing to follow up on. Can be handwritten on whatever is available, but preferably written in #Markor on my phone, with #syncthing syncing to all my other devices. This digital and synced form makes it easy to copy it into its proper location later.

All I want is a simple #selfhosted social media crossposting app, with at a minimum X, #mastodon, and bluesy. #postiz is too heavy on resources and bloated with AI, and I don't want to give some random SaaS access to my accounts when its a super simple problem. Do I really have to build my own?

This really seems like something that would've been solved by now, but it seems like my choices are either missing a platform i want, pay for a SaaS, some unmaintained open source program, a vibe-coded bloat fest, or build my own from scratch. Does anyone have anything good they're using?

I'm out in town waiting for a friend who will be another 30min. Luckily my phone has a #Termux environment with ssh, git, svn, vim, and python for development, as well as #obsidian and #syncthing for accessing my architecture and documentation notes. Building on the go is no problem #buildinpublic

I chose #planka as a Kanban/todo list awhile ago because it's #opensource, lightweight, and is easily #selfhosted. I'm sure there are tons of other options but once I started using planka, I never needed to look for anything else to track features and user stories. #buildinpublic

I'm taking the day to get my digital life organized. Emails, notes, files, and Keepass. I think the best thing is to clear up everything from today, and only clean up as much past stuff as I feel like, repeating tomorrow. That way I keep new stuff under control, w/o getting burned out.

Today I'm cleaning up code and writing tests that should have already been made. I kind of hate turning one medium function into a bunch of little ones, because I feel like it is counter productive and actually disorganizes things. But it does make it much easier to test/debug

I understand users wanting to maintain their privacy, but I need to guage website performance other than just the final conversion. Anyone have any tips for getting away from Google Analytics? #buildinpublic

I hate when websites have a how-to/tutorial page that is just an embedded YouTube video with no transcript. I can read faster than you can talk. If you really must embed your video, just put the text and pictures underneath!

Over the last few weeks I've been slowly laying the groundwork for my next big project. Making high level documentation drawings and designing data models. Its always exciting to start with a new blank canvas. #buildinpublic

Initially I programmed my own pricing table, because I thought Stripe's embeddable one would lack features I needed. I was wrong, and ended up switching to it. Now a lot of business logic I wrote is unnecessary for this project, but will definitely be useful in the future. #buildinpublic

When I made the switch, I added a variable that toggles which to use, so that its easy to switch back if desired. My original radio buttons are ugly, but doing it that way gives a lot of freedom, especially if using a UI framework. With Stripe's premade table, you basically only get what you see.

At the time I thought Flask was a good choice because I wanted to simplify my codebase, and didn't care about frontend design. But now I'm hating the fact I don't have separate backend and frontend services. I think I'll work on a few more features, then archive the project. 2/2

Oh man! As a modern, high powered tech founder, you really need to "Ininvestal FrvestirPH". It's nearly as important as "FRORGENTED REIOFGT", or the dire need to "PROIOSNAL SRAINING SAVIMINGS"

The self-hosted system requirements called for 50-80GB of storage space, which seemed like a lot just to prototype some auth flows. Instead I'm now using their cloud service, but staying within the free tier. I'm still glad they offer self-hosting, and would consider it for production #buildinpublic

I was looking for an auth service for my next product, and landed on Supabase. This week's goal is to selfhost an instance for testing/local dev, creating a simple PoC app, and later migrating to their cloud platform. #buildinpublic

Starting today, every personal project I undertake, I will fully #buildinpublic. I’ll make public thing such as: ✅ Workflows ✅ Tools ✅ Diagrams ✅ UI Mockups ✅ Design Decisions and Justification ✅ Financial Information Follow me to share in my successes, laugh at my failures, and learn as I do.

You are up to date.
