Made the dumplings for chicken and dumplings with mayonnaise, which is probably some sort of crime, but they tasted great

I guess my question for people who believe a woman can’t win a US presidential election is ‘Do you believe Joe Biden would have defeated Nikki Haley in 2024?’

I will always support a democratic system of government b/c I believe it’s the only form of government that has the potential to protect minority rights. The most frustrating thing about it by far tho is that voters love, LOVE, cutting their nose to spite their face

Yup. If this result was obvious to me - a random, reluctant Albertan - who exactly was advising Eby?

Froot@frootopia.bsky.social

The problem with David Eby calling a snap election is that it’s a nakedly cynical move, everyone knows it, and he’s not very popular to begin with. He should remember Jim Prentice’s example. No guarantees this doesn’t blow up in his face, & BC won’t be lucky enough to get a Rachel Notely if it does

I don’t feel bad about David Eby losing his job. He fumbled files and called a nakedly cynical election. I feel bad for BC’s queer kids, who are going to have a government that likely bans discussion of sexual orientation/gender identity in classrooms, and bans gender affirming care.

Although, as with the Alberta referendum, shame on the ‘median’ troubled voter that signed up to a party of fraudsters, bigots, religious zealots, and apparently, sexual assault-ers. You knew who these people were and putting them in power is a mark on your own morality.

A possible candidate for the next BC education minister is a lunatic who believes that gay people are pedophiles and conversion therapy should be encouraged. I hope I live long enough to see people like this run out of public life and given the same treatment as active klansmen, not elected.

Glad to see at the end of a divisive week of referendum-ing, Danielle Smith is banning pride flags from school flag polls. Because conservatives believe kids can be ‘turned’ queer and the rest of us need to take that seriously for some reason :)

Damn, I didn’t know BioWare was based in Edmonton. I’ve played homegrown, Albertan developed video games? What a gag, rip (obligatory EA suuucks)

Dropping a slightly eerie sounding song with midnight in the title a week before Halloween makes me think this is a Halloween track and not part of a bigger project, but would love to be wrong

but why seriously though, every ryan murphy show is the most insane thing you've ever heard of, it somehow holds together for somewhere between three and six episodes, and then it goes completely and irreversibly off the rails we have already passed the threshold

🚨 A ‘GLEE’ revival has been officially ordered at Disney+ and Hulu. No cast members are currently announced to return.

I was such a huge gleek as a teenager, but that show doesn’t work outside the context of like 2010. It was already clearly in decline and losing cultural relevance by season 3. Despite how much I used to love it, it’s even difficult to rewatch

‘Oh of course, I’ll be quiet. I understand the need for total concentration. Y’know, painting a portrait is like a battle. A bloody battle! When -‘ lmaooo

There isn’t really a polite way to say this, but voting yes on any of Danielle Smith’s 9 questions puts you somewhere on a spectrum from ‘I don’t know how the Canadian Government is structured/functions’ to ‘I blame people not like me for societal problems.’ There should be some shame for that

We’ll have to wait for the results to finish being counted, but it’s looking like several hundred thousand people voted on the separation question but ignored the other 9? Interesting

Ian Brodie: Thomas Lukaszuk started this campaign by calling Danielle Smith a terrible name. Listen, sir. Not sure what name he called our Dani, but whatever it was it wasn’t mean enough.

Under 25% for the Alberta separatists would be a terrible result for them. It would amount to about half the UCP’s voter base - which was suggested through prior polling. Half/40% of the UCP base being separatists is why this issue likely doesn’t die tonight, regardless of the full result

Can someone explain how federalists are supposed to address the complaint about election results from Quebec and Ontario deciding federal elections? They have more people. They're in an earlier time zone. Did you want your votes to be counted first? Count for more? What is it?

Most of the coverage tonight has been a relitigation of Alberta’s grievances. Talking to separatists whining about Trudeau, panelists whining about Trudeau…and nobody ever really trying to introduce facts to their feelings. Pathetic.

You don't have to do this, @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social. It's a choice. They want to defund you. They think you're a propaganda arm of an evil government. You will never win them over by showing them grace when they show absolutely none towards you.

Before anyone yells at Elections Alberta, they asked the legislature for extra funding for this process at the beginning of the year - repeatedly - and were denied it.

Listening to Alberta separatists on the news is nuts. They openly expect their support is much higher than it is, and when it isn’t, they clearly won’t accept reality. Since they have their claws all through the UCP, the next few months/year are going to be interesting.

Ok Mitch Sylvestre can be given as much air time as he wants as a ‘respectable’ separatist leader, but the man is not a serious person. He may be a movement ‘leader’ but his beliefs are not tethered to material reality.

There’s still so much up in the air though. It will be a few days before we know if this asinine referendum has strengthened or weakened Danielle Smith’s hand.

Now that Alberta referendum day is here, I hope the pundits that have insisted for months that this was a huge opportunity for Pierre Poilievre to show leadership will admit that he did not rise to the occasion. Also, I heard a lot of commentary about how Harper would intervene and he… didn’t.

While I’m glad that Canada doesn’t have the issue of living fossils monopolizing power in our federal government, is there a reason Canadians keep putting 80yr olds in into mayoralties?

5- Jason Kenney is not a voice of moderation. He has a long history of racism dressed up in respectable drag. Going to every ethnic buffet and saying "Do you guys hate the gays? Us too! You should vote for us!" is not him being not racist. The story fails at every single point.

The ‘CRA gave a sovereign citizen 10 million dollars b/c he fraudulently claimed he had overpaid taxes in the millions, only being stopped by the man’s bank flagging the transactions’ story is an excellent example of why we shouldn’t be attempting to automate the civil service…

The Magician’s Nephew movie is looking better than I thought it would, pretty cool actually. Not sure why Jadis - my Queen - is in an ugly mirrored mini dress tho. But I might just be unfairly comparing her to Tilda Swinton’s White Witch, b/c Tilda ate, chewed, and devoured the 2005 movie.

What the pro-Canada Conservatives don't seem to understand is that this sort of care and feeding of false grievances is what sustains the separatist movement. They created it. They can choose to kill it. But they have to do the work. And throughout this campaign, not a single one has chosen to.

Dale Smith@journodale.bsky.social

Honestly, fuck off with this revisionist history. Trudeau and Guilbeault didn't cause the world price of oil to crash in 2014. They did nothing to "shut in" Alberta's resources. Trudeau offered help to Alberta in 2015 when Harper didn't. www.readtheline.ca/p/jim-dinnin...
