Glad to meet you all away from the mess that X became. If you don’t know me, I help engineering teams find the suitable compute and data architecture for their needs. I often build serverless solutions on AWS and can be found creating scalable structures in AWS orgs and in cloud automation.

I've had an annoyed relationship with invoices in which all outcomes of my work is spread in systems (git, jira, email, messages) and now I am required to keep track of what's in those systems anyways just for invoices. Found myself scrolling back up through the previous month for creating invoices

often when I didn't keep as well as I should've. So now I've created a small app that will sync my activities from those sources and allow me to map and summarize them into line items via a local LLM. Prototype built in 2 days with a bit of local qwen, using Tauri, Rust, MLX on Apple Silicon.

Impressive, cause I run the LLM that builds the app based on my specification in my office and the LLM that creates the summaries for the line items runs on any Apple Silicon Mac as part of the app. No OpenAI nor Anthropic touched, nothing left the office and it's also not that expensive hardware.

Going to be building on Scaleway in the coming weeks. Throw advice and questions at me while I dig in 👀 Service offering looks appealing

However the Private Network Integration is a little less obvious and whenever I attach my instance to it I have complete connectivity loss. I am sure it’s routing or firewall, but the interface (coming from AWS/Azure/iptables) is a little weird to me. 🧐

After having spent 3 months with Scaleway I’d say the offering is great for small to medium complexity, but lacks in some areas of private networking and more enterprise architectures. Overall really impressed and many good bits on the roadmap to fix that. Go Europe! 🇪🇺

„Refactoring the cloud infrastructure while sipping a fine Junmai Ginjo and pondering why anyone accepts a high TCO for marginal latency gains.“ is a tweet by me according to Gemini. Good. 😊 It’s been a while since I had some Sake though. Also good.

The moat in LLMs is not in the model and inferencing itself, which is a high capex, low margin market. It’s really in the tool and integration points of the LLMs and the data that it can integrate. So in my book data companies still win and we should not focus so much on the boring model releases.

Inclined to comment “eww” as a reaction to LinkedIn contacts joining OpenAI and selling it as “working on products that’ll benefit all of humanity”. Sure, apart from your leader basically already weighing human energy consumption against AI consumption. That’s sure what working together looks like.

#Köln @sprechwunsch Hitze ist kein Ausnahmezustand mehr. Nach mehreren Diensten während der Hitzewelle bleibt bei mir vor allem eine Frage: Warum sind wir darauf immer noch nicht vorbereitet?

For relatively small scale event tracking and reporting is Bento into parquet on S3 and a bit of duckdb for querying all one might need? 🧐

Job: Create project vending machine, that'll manage the entire lifecycle of a project like bootstrapping container namespaces, registries, secrets etc. and also github environment secrets that match that. Github: Here's my flaky 401s on secrets management for your tool. 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨

What’s *really* cool is that every scaleway account comes with a managed Grafana and configurable log/metric/tracing sinks which are paid by use. So within like an hour I have an app running and centralised it’s logs.

Man I’ve really driven out to me parents place to get told that Viagra boys as well as Amyl and the sniffers are definitely not The Rolling Stones 🤔😒

Went out to meet a friend in Berlin. On the way there listened to @kneecapceol.bsky.social new record. Turns out that the place we went to (Salami Social Club) ran the same record. 🥹 🇮🇪 🇵🇸 Love those moments💚🤍🧡

What most organizations I work in are lacking is organization-wide AI harnesses, rules and governance. Most allow use of AI for software development, but there is a complete lack of support to have that produce output that follows conventions and style that is expected in that organisation.

If AI is allowed to produce software with no means of oversight no two projects are going to look similar. Naming, tools etc. will be a complete sprawl and day 2 will be a nightmare. Currently the job of the reviewer is to put AI “back into place” if it implements stuff that doesn’t meet criteria’s.

The cognitive load will immensely increase with the speed of AI development if every project looks completely different.

Today 10 years ago I got this box and that to me was one of the most exciting leaps into the future. Maybe I haven't caught up well enough with the VR landscape, but it seems like there was a vast hobbyist community back then with all kinds of fun demos and that appears to have completely died.

Watching opencode and Qwen3.5 122B migrate a python library to Rust for roundabout 12 hours now. Let’s see if this ever gets it done… Like I don’t need this for work, just for hobby. If this was for work this wouldn’t be okay 😅

Raspberry Pi compute module is completely underrated/misunderstood. It’s an upgrade over regular RPI in that you can get it with proper storage for OS and ECC memory and you can get the IO that is most fitting for your use case. In my case the IO board has 2.5gbit Ethernet and mounts an NVMe.

Knowing how computing works from first principles is such a super power. Just debugging some system to system communication is so many layers of tech and if you see how it breaks you are likely to be able to point at that one thing where it’s broken almost immediately. 🥹

All I wanted to do was write a blog post about some multi account networking and now here I am fighting AWS billing alerts...

Good day to cancel 1Password/Google Apps For Business and move to Proton. That was surprisingly easy and the apps look really good. Went with the 9,99 plan that gives me 500GB/Storage throughout all apps. Happy 🇪🇺

It’s all fun and games to shout about sovereign European tech until you realise there is no European alternative to apples and googles push notification services and communication on mobile is pretty much impossible without them.

I know that for LLMs/Chat Completion, most OSS is also exposing an OpenAI compatible API, so it's become somewhat of a standard. Is there any similar API standard emerging for object detection on videos/images?

On that note, Qobuz is really a nice European alternative to Spotify. The only thing as usual is integration with Siri via Airpods does not really exist.

Current status in owning all my data again: Used mdadm again after perhaps 10+ years to create RAID1 at home. Ordered a disk to my parents “just attach this to the raspberry pi I run things on that make your home work. Ask questions later.” as an off-site backup point.

If I don’t value my time I financially break even in ~2 years with all my iCloud data transferred and storage capacity has gone up from 2TB to 8TB for all my drive/photo needs. Once I go beyond 2TB I break even in only ~1 year.
