65 countries offer incentives to lure film and TV productions away from the U.S. America has no national film tax credit. I'm co-leading a bipartisan bill to create one, because every country outbidding us for American work needs to know: we're done losing.

New pod: If passed as written, today’s federal production tax incentive bill would have an immediate and massive impact on the lives of thousands of entertainment workers. With Rep. Laura Friedman. Listen! Watch! open.spotify.com/episode/3VSw...

Students, TODAY is the LAST DAY to submit your apps for consideration in our Congressional App Challenge! I’m so excited to see what you have created this year! Best of luck to all who have submitted their application!

If you haven’t seen one of Robert Vargas’ larger-than-life murals, then you haven’t experienced one of the best artists in the area. The Burbank community celebrated the unveiling of his newest local creation at a great block party this past weekend, right here at the Burbank YMCA.

The most recent study on the offshoring of film and TV production jobs paints a grim picture of what’s ahead for the industry we fail to act. That’s why I’m helping lead a bipartisan group of my colleagues and labor unions to rally around our bipartisan national film tax credit bill. (1/2)

latimes.comU.S. share of studio TV spending fell from 94% to 64%, unions sayA study commissioned by Hollywood unions finds the U.S. share of major-studio TV spending fell from 94% to 64% as Congress weighs a film tax credit.

Hollywood isn’t asking for a handout. We're asking America to do what it does best: 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞. I’m working around the clock to get this bill passed so we can bring back the jobs we’ve lost to the 65 countries which offer filming tax incentives & keep American investment where it belongs:

Honored to receive an award from Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL) and the legendary Priscilla Presley for my work to protect wildlife and pets from the cruelty of humans. In the Legislature, I worked to preserve habitat and prevent inadvertent poisonings. (1/2)

In Congress, I’m cosponsoring the FIGHT Act, which will combat illegal animal fighting operations. I’m also a cosponsor of the ACE Act, which will strengthen federal enforcement against those who abuse animals. (2/2)

The real stars of Hollywood are the production workers who build the sets, hang the lights, and keep shoots running. I was proud to stand alongside them to voice how important this jobs bill is for our local economy. Let’s get this passed and bring production home.

Spent some time talking with the young and bright leaders of tomorrow – our local Girl Scouts! As a Girl Scout mom, it gives me so much hope to see young people engaged in our democracy.

Hollywood has the best crews, soundstages, and post-production houses. It makes sense to keep filming here, but right now America is not competing for film and TV productions. That will change with the bipartisan film tax credit that I helped introduce last week. (1/2)

cbsnews.comProposed legislation aims to bring "Hollywood home" by way of a national film tax credit"I am here to tell you that we have never been this close to getting a federal tax credit passed. Never been this close," Senator Adam Schiff said, noting that there is bipartisan support, including the support of the White House.

Visited Seeds of Hope’s Hollywood food distribution site at St. Stephen’s in Hollywood, which provides free & healthy produce to those in need, plus cooking classes & urban gardens. They are just one of the many nutrition assistance organizations seeing more need because of Trump’s cuts to SNAP.

In Congress, I’m pushing to undo these cuts to keep Angelenos from going hungry. I want to thank all the volunteers at St. Stephen’s who give their time and efforts to serve their community!

I visited local small businesses along Melrose to talk to their owners about what they need to thrive. Running a business is hard. Tariffs, crime and infrastructure needs are making it harder. (1/3)

In Congress, I’m fighting to lower prices to help business keep their doors open, and get funds to local governments so that they can make their streets safer. Huge thanks to Blu Jam Cafe, Carmel, Melrose Trading Post, The Fame Yard, and Melrose Arts District for having me. (2/3)

Today marks the 54th anniversary of the passage of the Clean Water Act. Every American deserves access to clean water, free of lead and forever chemicals. I’ll continue defending the right to clean water for all our children and families.

This morning, my district office received an envelope containing a suspicious substance. Out of an abundance of caution, and under guidance from law enforcement, we evacuated. We will continue our work serving constituents and will be back in the office when responders tell us it is safe to return.

I am grateful to Burbank and Glendale first responders for keeping everyone safe. Threats against lawmakers and the people who work for them have no place in this country. We will not allow them to stop us from working for the people of CD 30.

Part of my visit to Glendale Community College included a tour of their new Inclusion Center, which is home to updated spaces where students can connect, collaborate, and recharge as they pursue their studies. (1/2)

As the Trump Administration continues to cut financial resources for colleagues and universities, I’ll continue to defend every student’s access to a quality education that will help them succeed in life. (2/2)

Prospective Service Academy Cadets and Midshipmen, it’s time to put the finishing touches on your nomination applications and turn them in. Today is the last day you can submit. I look forward to reviewing each of your applications and reading your stories. Best wishes to all!

The future of entertainment & education is being built right here at Glendale Community College. I was proud to put on a headset and experience it first-hand. (1/2)

GCC’s new virtual reality center is giving students an education in cutting-edge technology that will help prepare them for the workplace, whether it’s a Hollywood studio or a lab. (2/2)

Elected officials are using their positions to enrich themselves. It’s past time for that to change. That’s why I’m helping lead the TRUST in Congress Act, which would prohibit members of Congress, their spouses, and children from trading individual stocks. I came to Congress to work for YOU.

washingtonpost.comPoll shows nearly 90% of Americans believe government corruption is widespreadAmericans have the highest level of distrust in their government in two decades, voicing bipartisan frustration with the country’s institutions and the people who run them.

Gathered heads of LA’s local transit agencies and accessibility advocates to talk about what our region learned from the World Cup, and what we need to do now to prepare to host the world when the Olympics comes to town.

This October, we’re honoring the brave icons who faced hatred with love, and forged ahead to fight for equal rights for all. We can recognize their achievements by learning about their struggles and recommitting ourselves to standing up for the rights of a new generation of LGBTQ Americans.

There’s just under 2 weeks left to submit your application to my office for the Congressional App Challenge! Every year we are inspired by the ingenuity of our students. I can’t wait to see what this year’s middle and high schoolers will create! Submit your application by October 26!

Now boarding at the new Hollywood Burbank Airport terminal! As an airport commissioner, I helped build support for this badly needed project. In Congress, I serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which oversees millions in funding to support projects like this.

This is a wake-up call. Our social media is being manipulated by foreign agents with the express intention of sowing hatred, mistrust, and misinformation among Americans. Russia is behind a lot of it, using programs designed to disrupt our country and turn us against each other.

We should be cynical about what we see on social media, and not fall for the rage bait. This is also a national security issue and if the social media companies dont take immediate action, they are complicit.

Sat down with CBS LA to share the details on the bipartisan national film tax credit bill I introduced last week. Here’s how it could stack on top of California’s existing incentives to equal a huge boost for jobs in my district:

Today, we honor and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the countless contributions Indigenous communities make in Los Angeles and across our nation. If you would like to learn more about Los Angeles’ Indigenous peoples, check out The Autry Museum in my district. (1/2)

Today is National Coming Out Day. To those of you who have come out, haven’t yet, or can’t, know that I will always support you. As your ally in Congress, I’m fighting for a future where you can live your most authentic life, free from discrimination and hatred.

Thanks for shouting out the American Film & TV Production Caucus, Assemblymember Schultz! He’s right. I co-founded this caucus with Rep. Brian Jack because bringing film and TV jobs back to America shouldn't be a partisan issue. (1/2)

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s remind ourselves and others to get a mammogram if warranted, to learn about the symptoms of disease, to practice self examination, and to see a professional if symptoms appear.

There’s just ONE WEEK left to apply for a service academy nomination from my office. Submit those applications ASAP, and reach out to my office if you have any questions.
