"Autism is not behavior" should not be a controversial statement. It's literally baked into everything we know about the condition scientifically. Autism is rooted in the brain, hence it being considered a neurodevelopmental condition. Behaviors are manifestations of autism. Not autism.

By my napkin math, total Bell Labs research expenditures from 1930-1980 were on the order of $50 billion in 2026 dollars. AI companies have spent ~$1 trillion so far: The equivalent of ~20 Bell Labs histories. In its history, Bell Labs researchers discovered the transistor, the solar cell, the laser

Funny thought experiment: Tech monopolies have spent about $1 trillion on AI development so far. How good of a chatbot could we have built for $1 trillion by just employing smart people to answer any question people might reasonably ask and collecting all the answers in a big lookup table?

hmmmm...not sure one person giving half a billion dollars to one party is a great sign of a healthy political system just not quite on board with that

This was the goal with anti gay rights in the '00s and '90s, with anti integration in the '70s and '60s, and even anti communism/labor in the '50s and earlier. Wealthy bigots have one playbook and they've been using it for almost the entirety of living memory

The goal was never β€œchildren should learn about this from their parents.” It was always β€œchildren should only learn it’s bad”

Like, heavens forbid there's any water cooler talk whatsoever. Heavens forbid I make an imprecise observation and share it. No sir, only precise, factual shop talk here. You should never say anything imprecise or wrong, lest you be lectured endlessly from above. This is the realm of "um ackshually".

I'm boutta crash out and call out sick for the rest of the day. One of the sr. engineers just sent me a textwall over Teams because I dared say to him, "gee, a lot of the RDP servers are having issues lately" but that's apparently factually wrong, and I'm not allowed to say things that are wrong.

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. I worked at BluePort, a NOC for world-class hotels, for 8 weeks. I made $23/hour pre tax. The office was a windowless stark white panopticon. When I went to pee more than twice one day, they told me the owners don't like to see that. The next day they fired me, and they wouldn't look me in the eyes.

I literally mean getting up from my desk for exactly 4 mins, to bathroom 10 ft away, and then refill my water right there. They also had a nasty habit of talking shit about people who used to work there and giving them demeaning nicknames. If they ever see these posts, they'll know who I am. lol.

currently teaching a multimillion dollar bean counter how to do their own job using Claude, they have had Claude for a very short time and they already can't function anymore. I wish I didn't have to enable this, but if I don't, I won't get to pay my rent or eat.

"itll always work out" and every variation thereof, pisses me off. I have a rich aunt who says it all the time. always says she wants to help me get a job, but when I pursue that conversation, she wants me to make dream boards or something. "it always works out" is so dismissive. we want answers.

Rep. Jim McGovern@repmcgovern.bsky.social

Actually, it doesn’t always β€œwork out.” Ask the millions of Americans struggling just to get by. These people have no idea what the hell they’re doingβ€”and they certainly don’t give a damn about making life more affordable for your family.

my issues dealing with users range widely. sometimes it's just "you don't know how it works, that's okay, let me give a simple explanation" and other times it's like "this is beyond not being techy, you have a fundamental object permanence perception issue, or a serious problem with basic reasoning"

The real reason furcons are good for networking is because furries want to help each other and use the community as a social safety net. The last thing we need is marketing-brained techbros taking advantage of that

from someone who does tech support for a community that has near-to-zero computer literacy, there's no amount of dumbing shit down that you can do to make shit work flawlessly/smoothly for people 100% of the time. instead of dumbing shit down, leave the rough edges in and teach computer literacy
