#31DaysOfGraves#Portrait Rev. George Henry Storie, vicar of St Giles Camberwell, London, 1811-1823. He was allegedly buried in the church's crypt which was later cleared of all interments, became the home of the Samaritans in 1962, and now hosts a jazz club. No idea where George is now!!

#31daysofgraves Day 26: Accident. This might be a plain stone in a country graveyard, but there’s definitely some kind of accident here. Possibly involving a time machine.
Today's #31daysofgraves theme is accident. This gravestone is in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin, #Hanbury, #Worcestershire. It is for Henry #Parry who died in 1847 as a result of an accident with a horse-drawn #railway waggon. He was working in the local #salt industry.

🪦 #31DaysOfGraves — Day 25: Tree
A hollow terracotta headstone in the form of a tree stump with two scrolls "nailed" to it.
The scrolls commemorate Elizabeth Halliday and Annie Birkbeck.

Today's #31daysofgraves theme is "contrast." These graves are in New Castle, #Delaware, #USA, squeezed in behind the Presbyterian church. The light streams down the gap only for a short while each day. For those that care this photo was taken using a #Yashicamat 124G and #Ilford#Delta 100 film.

#31DaysOfGraves Day21: Air
The beautiful young face of my Great Uncle, Serjeant Thomas Hindle, Air Mach 3, of the newly formed Royal Air Force.
He succumbed to the Spanish flu of 1918, 10 days before Armistice, in the RAF field hospital, Oxfordshire, he was 24.
Buried in #Nelson Cemetery, Lancs
Today's #31daysofgraves theme is "air". This tombstone is in the graveyard of St Pauls Walden, #Hertfordshire, #UK. Rodney was only 25 when he died, I assume in an accident as it was before WW2. I'm not sure what ACAC stands for.

My sledge and hammer both declined, My bellows they have lost the wind, My fire extinct, my forge decayed, And in the dust my vice is laid.
My coals have spent, my iron gone,

🪦 #31DaysOfGraves — Fire
James Mooney (1855-1877) came to Sydney from New York with his Irish parents in 1857. He was the first firefighter to die in the line of duty in Queensland, fatally burned by an exploding cask of rum in Queen St, Brisbane.
He ran ablaze out of the shop to save others.
Friends of James Mooney donated money to an already planned fountain but only if a plaque commemorating James was added.
The plaque was added in 1988, 111 years after James Mooney's brave act. The fountain still stands today at 118 Eagle St.
Oct 10 is Firefighters Remembrance Day in Queensland.
Next year (2027) Firefighters Remembrance Day will move to coincide with 4th May, which is International Firefighters’ Day and St Florian’s Day, the patron saint of Firefighters.

Day 18: Earth
John Foster gravestone (1681) by the Old Stone Cutter of Boston, originally erected in Dorchester.
A gravestone that will make you ask questions such as,
Why do geese hold up the globe?
Has the carver ever seen a pelvis?
When did he realize he forgot the scythe?
#31DaysofGraves Day 18: Earth The grave of John Cleves Symmes, Jr., at Third Street & Sycamore, Hamilton, Ohio. He declared "the earth is hollow, and habitable within." A replica of the hollow earth tops his gravestone.

Not everyone 'rested in peace' at Toowong Cemetery. Chinese graves were relocated from Portion 8 ➔ 2 ➔ 7 ➔ 19.
Most early Chinese graves were exhumed, remains placed in urns, and repatriated to China. It is rumoured gold was placed in the urns and snuck home.
