🌱 FERRO was part of the NSO–GfÖ Conference 2026 in Odense! Represented by SDU, FERRO was showcasing research on #recycling nutrient-rich lake sediment for #agriculture, connecting freshwater #restoration with phosphorus recovery and circular resource use.

🌍 It's #WorldLakesDay! Today we are joining our sister projects EUROLakes, FutureLakes and ProCleanLakes in celebrating the lakes that sustain biodiversity, support communities and strengthen our resilience to climate change. 💙 Healthy lakes. Healthy ecosystems. A healthier future.

⏳ Only 5 days to go until #SERE2026! 🌱 We’re heading to Brest, France, for the 15th European Conference on Ecological Restoration, together with the @spongeboost.eu! 🗓️ 24–28 August 📍 Brest, France If you’re attending, come and say hello! 👋

🏞️FERRO was presented at the 23rd World Congress of Soil Science #WCSS2026 Represented by Antonio Marcos Miranda Silva (SDU), who showcased current work on recycling lake sediments combined with biostimulants for agricultural use. Read more on FERRO’s attendance here: lnkd.in/dK_Hyird

🌱 Day 2 of the 2nd #FERRO_GAMeeting moved beyond the meeting room - directly into the field. 🌊 We visited Lake Ormstrup, where Theis Kragh from Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark shared insights into the lake's restoration efforts and the challenges encountered along the way.

🤝 Our 2nd #FERRO_GAmeeting continued with the Associated Regions presentations (Poland, Moldova, and Romania), who took the stage to share their perspectives, challenges and priorities, helping ensure that project solutions address real restoration needs across diverse European contexts.

📚 The day followed with a few words from out Coordinator - Tallent Dadi, who presented updates from FERRO's review of European lake restoration efforts, project management activities, and progress on developing a framework to support uptake of FERRO's solutions by Associated Regions.

📣 Effective communication helps research create impact. This is why Raya Ganeva ( @pensoft.net) presented updates on FERRO's communication and dissemination activities, supporting knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement. #FERRO_GAMeeting

🛰️ #FERRO_GAMeeting continued with some Earth observation information from @eirinipoliti.bsky.social, and Petra Philipson (BC), who shared how remote sensing-based lake classification and monitoring, supports improved assessment of ecosystem conditions across Europe.

🌱 Our next set of presentations were delivered from Olga Tammeorg, Priit Tammeorg and Franco Castillo (UH), who presented updates on excavating nutrient-rich lake sediments and exploring their reuse as fertiliser in agriculture.

♻️ Our lunch pause was followed by a presentations from Anna-Marie Klamt (SDU), who showed us the advances in nutrient recycling from lakes and innovative biotechnology approaches that can help reduce phosphorus losses from agricultural soils.

♻️ After a short break our presentations continued with a view from Anna-Marie Klamt (SDU) who showcased advances in nutrient recycling from lakes and innovative biotechnology approaches that can help reduce phosphorus losses from agricultural soils.

📑 Our presentations continue with Theis Kragh (SDU), who shared updates on sonar and sediment analyses used to identify phosphorus-releasing areas in lakes, helping target restoration measures more effectively.

The next set of presentations were led by our colleagues from SDU. 🍃🧪 Starting with Kasper Reitzel, who's presentation showed how we can supporting more circular nutrient management, by removing nutrients from lake water using a solar pump system and recycling them on agricultural soils.

📊 Where does FERRO stand today? Luis Braune (UFZ) shared updates on recovering nutrients at lake inflows and reusing them as fertiliser in agriculture -turning nutrient pollution into a valuable resource. 🌱

🤝 Our Coordinator Tallent Dadi (UFZ) took the floor by also welcoming us to the 2nd #FERRO_GAMeeting. He introduced the new FERRO Associated Regions partners from Romania, Moldova, and Poland, and highlighted the importance of collaboration for successful lake restoration across Europe.

🤝 The 2nd #FERRO_GAMeeting has officially started in Silkeborg! A warm welcome from our hosts Kasper Reitzel, Theis Kragh and Anna-Marie Klamt from SDU as partners gather to discuss the future of sustainable lake restoration.

🌍💧 Today, on World Environment Day, we celebrate the importance of protecting and restoring our freshwater ecosystems. 💙 At FERRO, we are working to support healthier lakes across Europe through innovative monitoring solutions and restoration approaches.

✨ Next week, between 9–11 June, the FERRO consortium will gather in Silkeborg, Denmark for our 2nd General Assembly Meeting. 🤝 We are looking forward to productive discussions, new ideas, and meeting our project partners in person once again. Stay tuned for updates and highlights from Silkeborg!

🥳 FERRO is celebrating its 2nd Birthday! 🏞️As a fighter against eutrophication, we have dedicated the past two years to on-stop growth. Developing approaches and technologies to support lake restoration and nutrient catchment. Read more about our journey here: lnkd.in/dcCsRRAq
