So september 3rd #shipshaper is coming to Early Access. And yes you can sail around in your creation . And share your creations via the Steam workshop integrations (to Bulwark also). Now to get back to making guns and figureheads!! #indiedev

We can laugh at this, or take pity on it. But ultimately the problem with the entire Silicon Valley reductive mindset: everything is an engineering problem. Art, love ,care , culture, community, our economy everything is just data. But you lose nearly everything in the process.

cool, cool

It's so easy a trap, it assumes our lives can be perfect and without error. like code.. But life is about the mistakes, the lessons learned, the fuzzy logic that dictates happiness, dictates beauty and chaos and the mess that is interacting with other people. That is life,.. glorious life.

So for #screenshotsaturday I have something really #indiedev I tied a set of data driven achievements to the Steam workshop submissions, if you took your ship out and used it, you can earn a Ship's log.. Tags added to your workshop ship. Go multiplayer and you might earn an "Ace " for the ship.

Don't know if any game has ever done this with their workshop. But I am really in love with this idea. There are over 2200 ships in the Shipshaper workshop, and hopefully soon folks can filter out the ones that are suitable for the upcoming multiplayer, both the combat and racing modes. #shipshaper

can anybody help me with bloody Davinci resolve.. for some reason the audio of my clips has gotten seperated from my video.. I got my edit done, is there a way to get the audio back synced. I cannot tell what audio belongs to what clip... Not really enjoying resolve TBH....

I only realized the guns weren't syncing except when firing, when this massive siege gun insta gibbed me, and I saw it back on the video.. This players deck (the white boat) is really nicely done also.. #indiedev..

Some days you gotta make the UI do fun stuff, like flip if you look at the ship's far side, and make the Worldmode button explain what it's about by turning the steering wheel, and then also that drives the rudder on the boat you are building. cuz some days its gotta be cute.. #indiedev

"A game about the joy of designing ships, and nothing else." Okay, I lied. But anyone paying attention knows I've been popping turrets from ships I designed since 2018... Now it's your turn. The multiplayer playtest kicks off next week. Join via player.gg/explore/game... #shipshaper #indiedev

So when is the sun going to be blocked by GTA coverage?? September and most of october.. pretty fucking calm. Not some black swan event so far. Could have launched on schedule? I mean a month out and all is quiet. Like really quiet..

I might just be antagonistic. But it seems the only people excited are an older generation of gamers and industry folk , longing for the decades past when a game could garner lines around the block at the virgin megastore.. Dunno.. those days are over.. however big this launch is.. its not that.

Make cool video of fully working submarine in #shipshaper, check #horn , check #lights , check #torpedotubes check #deploymines, check #reverseintonowprimedmines, check #oceanwaterdisplacement , check #sinkinsteadofdiving , # check What was I even developing again?

Some of the changes Valve are enacting ate good. (The calendar) or good for players who wanna 'eat more of what they already ate'. But showcases, events will be algorithming. Meaning players dipping outside their taste is gonna be a rarity. Which sadly is also a lot of what ails society.

So yes count on my passion and artistry to even make commercial work quirky.. but know that most devs are feeling that slow burn of survival forcing them to appeal to the broadest common tastest.

Anyways that's my fear for games and even the entirety of society , we get to eat what we like , but we should endeavour to eat what we don't know yet. Comfort food is not feeding your soul, its feeding your anxieties.

Creatively I can already feel I am much more 'playing the developer' Valve and its algorithm is pushing me to be.. simply to survive. Its been good shipshaper going to be way out of me comfortzone. ( You havent seen but a fraction). Which is good, but it is less idiosyncratic and artistic.

Its basically the machine rearing to recommend you what it thinks you like, from your oast behavior.. Whereas human curation shows you something some other human likes, who has a different preference.

So even though I like the improvements and having to rely less on relationships and reputation. Those have also benefitted me by exposing people who wouldn't have otherwise been exposed to my work.

Basically algorithmic marketplaces even before they get enshittified give consumers what they want , rather than broadening their horizons. Its spotify giving you fleetwood fucking mac .....again... Its youtube suddenly showing you a ton of some shit, cuz you clicked one short one time.

Today I ported #shipshaper 's infinite lights back into falconeer. Cuz if you all think Ace Combat is great, then you'd might like some more arcade Air Combat.. !! #indiedev

Did I just port an upgraded version of my infinite light system into #thefalconeer ?? I might have.. (and added directional calculations so proper point lights this time)

that is a pretty decent spaceship...lol.. its' amazing what folks get out of shipshaper!

Some people have made EXCELLENT space stuff though with ship shaper there really should be a mod or something to allow this in the game itself! @falconeerdev.bsky.social if you'd like some scope to creep

When' you've literally spend years fiddling with waves and oceans and wakes.. and it finally starts to look decent.. #indiedev I picked an ocean world because it meant having less assets to produce,, only to then spend a decade on a single asset. also no this won't run on a potato anymore.

Ooooh you cannot share pics of your multiplayer test cuz there is humans playing it ...lololol.. its a brave new world multiplayer.. also steam multiplayer. I understand why it took off. Takes out so much work.

Hmmmm I fixed up The Falconeer Remaster's (yes it got remastered) lights system. Into one of those fancy infinite light solution (calculation lights against the depthbuffer in one go)... kinda fancy.....still lots of artefacts..ray tracing it is not
