STEPHEN A: I want to ADDRESS this issue. [Financial Times reporter nods] You KNOW I have always trusted CPI as a measure of inflation FT: Absolutely STEPHEN A: BUT I think we must also consider personal consumption expenditures when considering interest rates

Agreed. The essay that will convince you that you haven’t been thinking about The Dollar enough. Really enlightening!

The idea that a student op-ed was deemed a threat to national security … a nation run by incompetent and fearful snowflakes

America is losing a talented researcher today. Rümeysa Öztürk, whose abduction by masked men prompted a search and her eventual release by ICE, has returned to Turkey. She wants to resume a career without "state-imposed violence and hostility." www.bostonglobe.com/2026/04/17/m...

I predicted this week that ending U.S. military support to the IDF (currently ~$3.8 billion annually) would be the official position of the Democratic Party within 10 years and think I probably overestimated the time required by as many as 9.5 years. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

👀 40 Senate Democrats just voted to block a proposed sale of weapons to Israel. Just 7 Democrats voted to approve the weapons (along with every Republican): Blumenthal Coons Cortez Masto Fetterman Gillibrand Rosen Schumer 40-59, @sanders.senate.gov resolution to block the sale fails.

It’s been wild to read the News side of the Wall Street Journal alongside the Opinion side during this war. These people are watching two different wars.

I’m increasingly of the view that anyone who wants to opine on the Middle East needs to do a three-month internship at Exxon or Aramco as part of their training.

A fun thing to do is to read the News part of the Wall Street Journal alongside the Edit side. The former tells the business world what it needs to hear, and the latter tells the business world what it wants to hear. Currently side by side: www.wsj.com/us-news/law/... & www.wsj.com/opinion/abou...

wsj.comThis Prosecutor Was Floundering. Now He’s a Go-To Guy at Trump’s DOJ.After Pam Bondi’s ouster, the administration will likely lean even more heavily on lawyers such as Robert Keenan.

Put Iran aside. Calling the war to defeat the Islamic State — a war carried out by an 87-nation coalition! — a war “manufactured by Israel” is some wild stuff, and progressives should avoid cheering this rift on. This is a harbinger of anti-liberal, anti-Semitic, right-wing rhetoric to come.

Everyone will be quick to point out how Vietnam ended, but my favorite part of this is about how our military is somehow “leashed” under Pete Hegseth. Which just goes to show how there will always be some idiot finance bro in NYC claiming we’re fighting wars with one hand tied behind our backs.

This administration makes a lot of head-scratching decisions, but the non-decision to replenish the strategic oil reserve while prices were in the low $60s is one of the head-scratchingest when you think about who is in leadership positions on energy.

I see the Wall Street Journal is blaming the Biden Administration for releasing oil from the SPR in 2021 when prices were high, but I would have thought the self-described journal of Wall Street would recognize a good trade when it sees one!

As someone once responsible for improving the integrated air and missile defenses of our Arab Gulf partners, I want to congratulate the Kuwaitis on their, um, uh, unprecedented success in this regard.

I was in Nashville for a funeral yesterday and caught up with my best friend over drinks before heading to the airport. Saw a guy walk into the bar at 2:15pm, open a bottle of Pedialyte he brought with him, and start chugging it alongside his alcohol. Next level stuff going on in Middle Tennessee.

I can, sadly, understand a business case for the Washington Post dropping its Metro, World, and Sports coverage and doubling down on political and regulatory journalism. Can’t understand what was more important for Will Lewis to do today than attend that meeting, though. Just POS leadership.

I hope every Democratic foreign policy official who served in the Biden Administration and/or hopes to serve again noticed what Benjamin Netanyahu just said about Joe Biden allegedly starving the IDF of ammunition in Gaza.

Man, yesterday was a real banner day for people with “Follower of Christ” in their Twitter bios as well as those ladies who yell at Evangelical Pastors when they flirt with progressive political thoughts.

If you asked a conservative Texan, or Tennessean, between the years of 1993-2001 or 2009-2017, what they would do if masked federal police came into their town and killed an unarmed person …

Gianni Infantino is responsible for this. As long as Trump held out hope for the Nobel Prize, he was not going to go to war in Venezuela. But that dang FIFA Peace Price has satiated his appetite for peace, freeing him up for war. I say all of this only 5/6 jokingly.

This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

Can’t help but think some people would love for this to all be about journalism standards and best practices and not, say, the rendition of human beings to some medieval dungeon without due process.
