I can't believe there isn't a film adaptation of "The Epic of Gilgamesh". One of the World's Greatest Stories. What's going on?

Sometimes the reward is as simple as being able to look at myself in the mirror the next day...

Hannah Vardit@hannahvardit.bsky.social

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Seen in the wild today... Ne're truer words hath been encribed upon a bathroom wall and door. #technoblade #minecraft #fuckcancer

I'm going to build a shrine to the #ponylang code review skill. Claude finishes building the a proposed workflow for my app, says everything is good and secure. /pony-code-review finds two authentication bypasses and user enumeration.

There are two types of people in the world when it comes to when people hurt each other. People who believe that impact matters more than intent, and those who believe that intent matters more than impact. My wife and i are on opposite sides of that coin.

Went to a thrift store and my kid found an urn: "someone donated Grandma", they joked. I checked, it was empty. Relieved, I continued and found another urn. This time, not empty. My humanity told me that I had to buy it, just to ensure they were scattered somewhere beautiful.

But buying someone's remains just feels like crossing a social taboo - regardless of honorable intent. Social taboos are weird.

If anyone out there reading this has been curious about fountain pens, inks, and papers - now's a great time and Endless is a great company to buy from. If you want advice or recommendations - hit me up!

Josephine Robertson@josephinerobertson.com

For the fountain pen peeps: Endless Pens (one of my favorite suppliers) is donating 50% of all Hatch & Inkfinity ink sales to the Trevor project this month. Do I need another bottle of ink? No. Did I buy one. Absolutely. ;)

On IRC, nobody has said anything yet today: I make a statement. At the exact same moment I hit return, someone else makes a materially identical statement on the same (random) subject. First comment at the exact same time. Same subject. No external stimulus. We live in a simulation.

This is today's most insightful post!

Just convert the typescript version into a bunch of folders of markdown and then cleanly regenerate the rust implementation

I have a talk accepted at a con coming up. It's not security related, and I'm actually pretty stoked about giving it. The area is moving so fast I'm going to be writing the presentation night-of. It is Embargod, but I will share when announced.

Guessing last night was patch Tuesday since my 8k monitor now has a max resolution of 1920x1080 and is completely unusable. Yay.

Instafollow. My feed needs more joy, enthusiasm, and wonder…

Today I would like you to recommend me something in your specific personal field(s) of interest. There’s no restriction here. Just recommend me something and tell me why. You don’t even need to be sure I use/wear/watch/eat that type of thing. I just want to see something you’re excited about!

Okay, there is something quite glorious about having a human respond to what would be a normally "throwaway request". It's true, it does feel different knowing that someone chose to pick up my prompt and make something.

My mother, my grandmother, and I'm sure many of the generations before them had a skill that I know I, and everyone else i know irl lack. The ability to look in a pantry and create from *anything*, something delicious and nutritious. I don't want recipes. I want to learn this skill. Where tho?

That moment after attempting to clean the same #fountainpen for over an hour you give up. It's now my sacrificial Baystate Blue pen.

I asked perplexity to convert a simple C app to C++ for review, and it had this *glorious* quote in its text: "Below is a minimal C++ tool that is the moral equivalent of your original program: it parses a translation unit and prints function signatures from the main file." A **MORAL** equivalent!

@samuraiames.bsky.social I don't know who storyboarded or animated "Brighter"... But in the scene where it shows Vox in front of a board with suggestions for the network... Vox canonically invented Doctor Who! Words can't express how happy that little detail made me. Please thank them for us.

If "everyone knows .unwrap() is a footgun", then why is it in #rust at all? Make the user use .unwrap_or, or match, or some other error flow mechanism so they're forced to make a decision. If they want to "panic!()", make them type it out. Let them ponder their life choices in those 9 chrs.

The goal of rust was to remove footguns, so I guess I'm surprised that this was allowed in the language in the first place. The goal of statically typed languages is to move problems from runtime to compile-time. Any crashes are bugs in the compiler, not your code. Maybe deprecate unwrap()?

I remember having a discussion with someone about how I thought that a language having a runtime "panic"-like function should be an anti-pattern. A "memory-safe crash" is still a crash. Guess I have a high-profile real-world example to quote now.

Anyone else in the #hazbinhotel and #doctorwho fandoms thinking that Vox is now Ursula Blake, to Valantino's Elton Pope? ... I am nerd.

Hey @life360.bsky.social Not a fan of you floating advertisements over the map or the UI during normal operation. I get it, you want to sell more trackers… If this was a free service, I'd accept it. But I pay you for this service and I don't want it cluttering up the map I'm trying to navigate.

Can someone tell me what a "Black Hatter" is in #hazbinhotel ? I've looked, and searched - and find no (cannon) reference to it… just fan-art. They're mentioned in S2E4, and feels Chekhov's Gun-like…

I have two 30m slots of Radio Time every week on an AM Shortwave broadcast station that can be heard almost everywhere in the World - over *actual* radio. None of this "streaming" nonsense. My next show needs to be 30 minutes of @amirtalai.bsky.social cackling over screams with no context. Spooky

Silly me not tagging #hazbinhotel in the above post … But if I do do it, I'll provide no context. Just cackling… … and screams.

When I was in my early 20s I was offered a job in a third world country to build their first Internet Service Provider. "What a potential to do good!", I thought to myself. The salary was near nothing, but the offered housing, a driver, armed guards, and a live-in cook and maid. Ok…

… and then they told me that the cook and maid would also provide me with other "services" on demand. I was young and oblivious to the abuse and exploitation that goes on in these countries. Just assuming these were normal hired workers. … but that last statement betrayed the truth. I passed.

Conjuring up some magic to finish my #ponylang #ODBC library. My one unsolved problem is that different databases return different error codes for the same issues! How does one solve this in a portable manner?

I just bought a sonic cutter. It's basically an X-Acto-knife that vibrates at 40khz. It may be my favourite tool purchase since my thermaltonics iron!

Haha, classic. "Hacker" tries to modify passwd file to provide themselves with persistent access. passwd file is immutable. "Hacker" gives up. I can think of at least three different approaches to get past this if this were a legitimate engagement.

When log4j vulns appeared, I wrote an app that recursively searched .zip/.war/ear/.jar files in memory for a specified regex. (…or just recursively show you all the files in each). I've been using it recently to inventory all my backups and it was so useful I'm considering renaming it.

Chillin' at @codescarolina.bsky.social #polyglot and #infosec community conference. This morning's topics: #AI #DevelopersAndSecurityKissingInATree #QBasic64 #php #Fsharp and #NoCorruptionMigration. If you're here, come say "Hi" to me. Hint: I'm wearing a very "Subtle" Cat shirt 😉

I don't know what it is about fountain pens, but my EDC selection colors my mood for the day. Carrying a 100+ year old pen frames my day with care and deliberate wonder. Carrying a modern pen with sparkly ink frames my day like "Star vs the forces of evil" and I giggle like a 12 year old all day

Heading into my last days with my current employer - and as an Employee whose job was research and creativity I am leaving behind what feels like a thousand unexplored loose ends. All had some value to me. Few will be picked up by others and explored. Never enough time to do them all justice.

Is this the first time #eurovision had allowed voting from the beginning, as opposed to at the end of all the songs? I don't remember it being this way... ... it just seems unfair to those later in the show. #esc2025

I really hope this is the case. I adore this song with every fiber of my being... So catchy!
