Several dozen people got laid off at work today. The execs held a meeting after that told us fuck all, just a bunch of corporate "we're in this together, you guys are great" bullshit. One of them said "this isn't entirely because of AI" but seeing as they didn't give any kind of real explanation...

I'm pretty inclined to believe it's *entirely* because of AI. They also said it had nothing to do with money or budget things, which is weird because, well, that's an actual answer! "We don't have enough money to pay this many people so we have to let some of you go" is a reasonable explanation.

No one in the company Teams meeting had any questions, probably because nobody wants a target on them, but I'm tempted to send them the email I drafted telling them that the meeting didn't explain shit and that their email (which was just the same speech) is full of emdashes so I'm 95% sure it's AI.
