Who’s listening?😧 🌐Being online has evolved from contacting friends to sharing sensitive information and signing documents. But not everyone online has good intentions, and the emergent quantum technologies put a threat on our data privacy… 🕵 #GlobalEncryptionDay

The power of quantum⚡How to secure your data? Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems bypass this challenge. Visualise this: your computer works with bits, 0 or 1. Quantum bits, qubits, can exist in multiple states, simultaneously! 🤯 QKD encrypts qubits in photons that can be exchanged safely.

How will we communicate and navigate on the Moon?🤔 🌒 ESA’s Moonlight will provide communication and navigation services to support Europe’s lunar exploration ambitions. But what does it take to make comms and nav work around the 🌒? Discover the challenges behind building a lunar network 👇️

Sometimes, all your satellite needs is a little push to extend its operational life🫸 ESA has signed a contract with ClearSpace to develop in-orbit servicing for geostationary satellites. The spacecraft could help keep satellites in the right orbit and orientation when their propellant runs low🧭🛰️

ESA Connectivity and Secure Communications reposted

Last night we brought together astronauts, ministers, industry leaders and space enthusiasts to celebrate the imagination, innovation and cooperation that define Europe's journey in space. From Earth orbit to deep space, we were reminded that today's ambitions become tomorrow's achievements.

#OTD in 2022, Eutelsat KONNECT VHTS launched aboard an Ariane 5, carrying with it the most powerful onboard digital processor ever placed in orbit🔥 So, why send a computer to space? It can work as the brain of the satellite, guiding communications traffic by processing, sorting and routing data💾

Not all space missions send back images 🌍 Some will help protect the information we send🔒⚛️ The Quantum Faint Pulse Source, a key technology for @esa.int's QKDSat - developed by DAS Photonics - creates the quantum signals needed for Quantum Key Distribution. www.esa.int/Applications...

Do sat comms still work during today’s solar eclipse?🌒🛰️ Yes! Satellites 'watch' eclipses often, not just from the Moon, but also from Earth. They may switch to batteries and be briefly affected, but only for minutes⌛ So, even during today’s eclipse, sat comms keep working #Eclipse2026

As forest fires intensify, systems that combine these capabilities have become a must-have. ESA's ‘European Resilience from Space’ initiative will combine existing and future capabilities in satellites for telecoms, navigation and Earth observation to support, among others, emergency response 💪

Connectivity is at the heart of security 🌐 The collaborative efforts of IRIS² will define how Europe remains connected and strong in the future🌍💪

IRIS², the EU's secure connectivity programme, accelerates to implementation. As a key player in IRIS² technical implementation, ESA will ensure that this secure & resilient connectivity system is successfully delivered. All for Europe's strategic autonomy & citizens. www.esa.int/Applications...
