The news about Erica Bauza is shocking and devastating. He was an artists' artist who truly cared about his craft and his peers. This is a tremendous loss to all those two whom he brought joy. My heart goes out to his family!

One cool thing about the Dead Meat Awards and Fangoria awards is that, even if I don’t agree with whatever wins, I wouldn’t argue against it either. I would personally pick Reflection In A Dead Diamond over Exit 8 and V/H/S/HALLOWEEN, but I’m not necessarily complaining that those won.

Personally, I would’ve went with Aunt Gladys from Weapons, but this is also a damn good kill. This particular category had some competition.

And the 2026 FANGORIA Chainsaw Award for BEST KILL goes to... OBSESSION for the Brick Kill! We WISH she saw that coming. 🧱

I could imagine this could frighten some small children. Imagine being 5 years old and in the supermarket, looking for your favorite cereal, and you get faced with GIANT EYEBALL.

Cocoa Krispies with Eye-Popping Marshmallows (2007-2007): Classic Cocoa Krispies cereal, but with marshmallows that looked like giant eyeballs. Part of a line of Halloween-themed cereals from Kellogg's that year.

1. We have a much more diverse selection of food to choose from, at least here in the US. So much international cuisine that we’ve been introduced to in the past 2 decades. 2. The rise of boutique film distribution companies and DVD labels. Never a better time for physical media collectors.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Sub-point to No.2: There's more of a dedicated effort to preserve certain films. Without all these distributors, so many movies would've languished in obscurity for eternity. All the hard work of those filmmakers, lost in the ether. These companies should be lauded for that reason alone.

3. We can easily look at countless websites, watch an endless amount of videos, movies, TV shows, and whatnot, and listen to any song you can think of, all on a device small enough to put in your pocket.

I think if you're a content creator who gets off on other content creators getting outed as being scumbags, you might have some skeletons in your closet, and thus are secretly happy it's not YOU that's been outed.

I actually voted for Tchotchke, but it was a tough decision between it and Closing Hour. More than happy to see the latter win. Hopefully Tim Smink and Co get more work from now on.

Listening to a podcast from 2016 and someone confidently said that they sold all of their DVDs because "it's all gonna be streaming somewhere forever." God we were so naive.

There’s no theater near me showing The Devils, so I won’t get to see what all the hype is for the time being. I don’t really know much about it. The most I know is that it’s directed by Ken Russell, the plot involves someone accused of partaking in satanism, and it’s NC-17.

Not sure if James left the two shorts with Richard Kind out of Fresh Meat because he felt it would be distracting to have such a notable name along other shorts with unknowns. Then again, the wraparound DID have Rich Sommer of Mad Men fame.

MY NAME IS JOHN: I did not expect THAT aspect of the titular John. I guess it does foreshadow the shapeshifting creature. Great performances from both actors as the mimic and the people.

Hillcrest: Quite long in the tooth, but there are some really good effects, and I like how nightmarish it is. Could see why James left it out, though, as it has some similarities to Tchotchke.

Lights Camera Carnage: Not all the humor works (Somebody literally says “Well that just happened“ at one point) and that last death kinda came out of nowhere, but this was pretty fun. Some gnarly gore. Would make for a really fun feature.

Had another Shrek 2 Retold dream. Been a while since I had those. This time, I dreamt that 3GI released a bunch of stills from the movie. One particular set of stills was for a whole scene starring Lord-Miller themselves.

Had I not already known that Lord and Miller were involved in this, I likely would’ve assumed that I dreamt they were. I did previously dream that Offset, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Soft Cell all took part in this, after all.

While I enjoyed V/H/S/MIXTAPE, I won’t really argue with you if you say it’s the worst V/H/S since Viral. That wraparound did kinda grate on me, and I won’t say the segments (save for maybe the first) reached the heights of previous installments. I’d say I lked V/H/S/HALLOWEEN better.

Will I say that it’s worse than Viral? Well, this has an actual framing device. The first proper one since 94. And the segments here are somewhat better overall than the one in Viral. At worst, I’d say it's the second worst V/H/S.

i think if you take the internet seriously you will make yourself both miserable and delusional at the same time. some of you weirdos have such a crazy skewed view of Real Problems

Haven’t fully caught up with The Creep Tapes as of yet, but that episode with Greg disturbed me more than any prior episode. Just the idea of a murderous psychopath residing completely unnoticed in your living space for only he knows how long. Makes you want to keep a knife around.

I think my time at the cinema with Fresh Meat was the closest I have yet felt to being at a film festival. Really got a taste of the type of experience I would get if I was at something like Fantastic Fest, what with those varied shorts playing to a great crowd reaction.

Of course, I would never really get that full experience. All of the cool genre festivals (Fantastic, Beyond) are a far distance from suburban New Jersey. The closest to me is in Montclair, but parking is a bitch there, and they likely won’t have much that really interests me.

Virtue signaling is good*, actually, because it signals an endorsement of virtues. Given the tremendous right-wing effort to signal and perform vice (televised executions, racist politicized raids, denigration of empathy, etc.) turns out we cannot actually take "lip service to virtue" for granted.

Yes, of course McDonald’s posting about National Coming Out Day is “performative.” Nobody thinks Ronald McDonald threw the first brick at Stonewall. Nonetheless, the biggest and most influential institutions in American life performing affirmation of LGBT social and civil equality is a good thing.

SPOILERS FOR JINX (FRESH MEAT) Having just seen the segment in particular, I'd say it even ends sorta like that sketch. Wonder if Ian and Anthony would consider suing.

Cool that one of the segments of Fresh Meat is a horror version of this Smosh sketch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkMb...

Going home from Fresh Meat. Not all the shorts worked for me, but overall, it was a quality bunch. I'd say my favorite is Tchotke, with Closing Hour being a close second. Really, it's neck-and-neck there.
