This is currently on hold. LCG has banned my account because the scraping violates their ToC. I’m trying to get my account unbanned.

At this point I’m discontinuing the project. I’ve found an open API and I’ll cook up my own redeployable comics inventory and gallery. More to come later.

Here’s the thing: AI isn’t going to improve the world. We know this because it’s already failing to do that. It does a few nice things at the cost of making a lot of things worse. Why should we accelerate or even tolerate the bad things for the hollow promise of a shining city on a hill?

One of the things that’s as galling as it is bewildering about Sony planning to be done with physical games is that their digital store experience is amateurish. They do a terrible job showcasing what’s new and interesting.

For example, there’s a demo available now for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. 1) To download it you have to search for the game to get to the game page (because it doesn’t have any front page presence), then you have to go to the three dot menu button to even see the Demo option.

I built an Android app called Cogsworth to help a kiosk-style display at my record collection to make the wall of vinyl more accessible to guests and during parties, because nobody wants to twist their neck sideways or crawl on the floor to scan my records. cogsworth.chateaulore.net

cogsworth.chateaulore.netCogsworth — A display, search, and multi-collection management app for Android devices.Cogsworth is an Android companion for your Discogs collection. Browse your shelves, find a record, and rediscover what to play next.

This app works with the Discogs API using a personal access token. This adds functionality that isn’t provided by the Discogs app in a way that’s safe to leave running non-stop inside your own home. Full disclosure, AI was used to create this app. Thus: I built it, I didn’t write it.

Been taking an archery class with the local parks & rec. Shot 8 sets or 5 arrows today with a recurve at 10 yards and did fairly well: 25, 40, 41, 44, 36, 38, 40, 41.

I’m not familiar with the books or the author, but this seems like a good tip!

If you are feeling sad about Tim Curry and want to hear him read for a dozen hours or so, get the audiobooks of the Old Kingdom trilogy by Garth Nix. It’s excellent fantasy that is accessible and has the best necromancy I’ve ever seen. Curry reads all three original books

Maybe don’t call Haaland the “King in the North,” sportscasters. There were books. They made a TV show. IT DOESN’T GO WELL FOR THAT CHARACTER.

Caught up with my pace for my annual goal in February. This doesn’t reflect one DNF: The Final Curtain by Keith Higashino. #BookSky

Relistening to A Black Mile to the Surface (2017) in the wake of the news that Manchester Orchestra drummer Tim Very has passed away. This album really resonates with me during a bad period in my life, but I’m really struck now by how similar it feels to a John Dardinelle novel.

Displaying Team USA Olympic figure skater Ilia Malnin on a CRT brings out a lot of the artist-intended details that get lost with pure pixels, this is why so many of us retain vintage hardware

Italy put together a rather fine Opening Ceremonies in Milano Cortina. Memorable cauldron, loved the athletes’ parade in all four locations of the event.

My son took a shine to the gem sluice on our trip to Great Wolf Lodge in December, so we got a rock tumbler when we got home. Just finished the first batch. #TimelineCleanse

I worked for a scout camp in the middle of nowhere as a kid. At the end of a week, I was splitting block of pine abandoned by scouts who didn’t take their woodcarving projects home. Totally unnecessary but I was stir crazy and 15 so my brain was smooth. Chopped the tip of my thumb off with an axe.

What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain. 😅

Fortunately is was a seems-worse-than-it-is injury. I had just nicked the artery so there was plenty of blood. But I managed to avoid doing any lasting damage. Almost 30 years later, there isn’t any kind of scar.

Understanding what is happening in the US court system, what it means when a temporary restraining order is under administrative stay pending an en banc review… this stuff is hard for laypeople. If you value quality, independent journalism, then give yourself the gift of subscribing to Law Dork.

OK, a little pie-in-the-sky goal here: Any chance we could get Law Dork 549 new subscribers — free or paid — before the new year? That would give Law Dork 80,000 total subscribers! If you've relied on my work this year, share this with your recommendation! www.lawdork.com
