Okay, people are already getting really depressed and frustrated with the Next Fest, so I'll say what I said last time round: Wait a day or two. They order the games on the pages by hours played, and 99% of the AI garbage will sink like a stone. Right now it's just undifferentiated and unranked.

Fortune's Weave is a trap set up by Nintendo to absorb a significant mass of gamers in a single game never to be heard from again like the fucked up ghost vault from Ghostbusters.

I am really glad I decided to start a fresh save and play through the main Dragon's Dogma 2 campaign again in hard mode instead of just jumping into the DLC with my endgame save. The new Lost Rites dungeons scattered throughout the base game are very cool and very rewarding for pre-DLC characters.

Hard mode also makes the main campaign very fun to replay as a series veteran who has seen and done everything there was to do in the base game. I'm approaching level 50 about halfway through the game and I still flee from every drake I see because they feel unkillable with the gear that we have.

I'll have to more to say on Remap, but last thing: Some of the new quality of life features, like clearer and more forgiving save system, are great. But man, I really think the Eternal Ferrystone changes the way the main campaign feels. Excited to play a hard mode run without ever touching it.

I'll be on Remap Radio this week to discuss my time with Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, which I rolled credits on a couple of nights ago. In short: It's much more game than I expected, and I really enjoyed it. Norgan, the new area, is a joy to explore and the whole experience is 'moreish.'

Played my first run this evening and so far this game is fucking awesome. There’s plenty of mechanical depth but it feels natural and additive to the experience, and the vehicles feel great even when you’re redlining your ramjet and trying not to crash or explode. Very excited to play more of it.

one of my more normie opinions is that i think Skyrim is straightforwardly just a great game. this is not an invitation to tell me about Morrowind i do not care

Angelica Huston in Captain EO, a 1986 sci-fi short film that was shown in 3D at Disneyland. There is a scene where she threatens to turn people into trash cans and points her claws at the audience, and my parents had to get 3 or 4 year old me out of the theater because I was SCREAMING.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

UFO 50 is the best Steam Deck game there is and ever will be. (Also GREAT on the AYN Thor and other handhelds)

Having an editorial team of only cis-men in 2026 is a management failure, and we should treat it as such. There's no shortage of highly skilled, overqualified, funny, smart, and direct women, femme, trans, and non-binary people TRYING to work in games media. We just don't get to most of the time.

The games that made me, in the order that I played them. I wish I had more room because there are many more games that I hold dear, but sometimes you just don't fit in the backpack.

Hey sure why not

I fell behind on my reading goal this year so I started reading Animorphs books to juice the numbers because my brain is broken (they are like 175 pages long). The reading level feels kinda low for a young adult series but these books are pretty good!

The more I play the new Fire Emblem the more I kind of hate it. For every hour I spend actually fighting a battle or watching anime it feels like there's 3 hours of busywork and chores that add NOTHING to the experience but are essential if you want to succeed on the harder difficulty.
