🤬 When you watch the Budget this year, and are told there is "no money", that we have to face "hard choices", that welfare has to be cut, just remember the below report 🔽 from @equalitytrust.bsky.social and ping it to everyone you know, including your MP...👍 equalitytrust.org.uk/news/ghost-g...

equalitytrust.org.ukGhost GDP — Billionaire Britain and the Hollow Economy - Equality TrustAn analysis of how billionaire wealth, rentier capitalism and “ghost GDP” are hollowing out the UK economy, deepening inequality and weakening democracy.

As part of the #1forEquality fortnight of action urging effective activation of the socio-economic duty, we collaborated with artist Rita Kappia and community partners bringing lived experience insights from various parts of England to take these small but mighty dolls to parliament this week 💪

Economic inequity hasn’t occurred because the wealthy are any smarter than everyone else, or working any harder. It was caused by a series of policy decisions that have steadily made life easier for the wealthy, and harder for most working people.

Reporting from London Centric has exposed the ongoing mass eviction of hundreds of tenants from properties across London owned by Asif Aziz. Our lives should never be at the mercy of one capricious billionaire: we need to tax billionaire wealth, build social homes, and change our system.

London’s “worst mass eviction in recent history” is underway; hundreds of households across London told to get out of their homes this week by the same landlord, ahead of the renters rights act. The landlord? Billionaire Asif Aziz’s Criterion Capital. www.londoncentric.media/p/asif-aziz-...

Almost two thirds of people in the UK have cut back on essentials due to the cost of living. The crisis isn’t over — it’s getting worse. Today we're launching the Cost of Living Action campaign, calling on the Government to end this crisis and ensure it never happens again.

AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

Talk of building a good society is often met with the charge of utopianism. But this is wrong, argues @profkepickett.bsky.social of @equalitytrust.bsky.social. The blueprint for a fairer society lies in front of us – but it requires moving away from “trickle-down” economics #LSEInequalitiesBlog

blogs.lse.ac.ukWhy my vision of a Good Society is evidence-based, not utopianWe have a choice about the kind of society that we build. A fairer, more prosperous society is possible, but requires moving away from “trickle-down” economics.

Billionaires are organising across the world, from South African billionaires trying to win control of political parties to American oligarchs undermining democracy wherever they can. The only way to stand up to them is for workers to organise back #heartunions

If we want to build a more equal society, unions must be a key part of that. We know that more unionised societies are more equal, workers are more protected, and communities stronger - but that's far from the only reason to #heartunions this week

The completely shocking utterly unsurprising reports about Mandelson, Epstein and banks show how broken the UK's system is – but we're not alone. Billionaires are exerting influence worldwide. We should stop them.

“Inequality has left such a deep imprint on health and wellbeing not because it suddenly kills, but because it slowly reshapes how people live, relate, cope and age” – Richard Wilkinson & @profkepickett.bsky.social of @equalitytrust.bsky.social #LSEInequalitiesBlog

Changes to corporate tax transparency regulations that would have required businesses to publish actual information about their activities have been quietly delayed by the government. Not only will this encourage more tax avoidance, it'll also make it much harder to tackle fraud, abuse or crime.

Enough money to end global poverty 26 times over. That's how much money billionaires have made since 2020 according to Oxfam's new research. But instead of doing that, they're using this obscene cash pile to brazenly manipulate politics, buy governments, and rule us.

Other European and advanced economies have been reducing child poverty rates – but the UK has been sharply increasing it for over a decade. The government has answered with a Child Poverty Strategy, but does it understand the real crisis? Read our briefing now: https://ow.ly/lVGT50XZAJW

ow.lyBriefing: Inequality and the Child Poverty Strategy - Equality TrustThe Child Poverty Strategy is a serious attempt to reduce hardship, but believes poverty can be solved without confronting wealth and power.

Good morning. A regular reminder: a tiny few hoard staggering wealth and own much of the media, while millions struggle to survive. That’s not an accident. It’s a choice made by those in power. Tax wealth. Fund public services. Build an economy for everyone - not the 1%.

@equalitytrust.bsky.social Bless the Equality Trust 4 being brave enough 2 abandon Twitter (or X as the head twit would have us call it) & it's nastiness! I wish our government, public bodies & others would be brave enough 2 do so too. This will help hit the owner's wealth; maybe then he'll act?
