Second hyakumeizan from my Hokkaido roadtrip - Mt Yotei emgoto.com/mt-yotei/
Happy September~ My monthly newsletter is out! emgoto.com/newsletter/a...
My new hobby (addiction?) lately has been checking out new coffee shops! emgoto.com/tokyo-coffee...
Was out hiking on the weekend so it's little delayed, but happy August! Here's my monthly newsletter - www.emgoto.com/newsletter/j...
www.emgoto.com/newsletter/j... Happy July! Got my monthly newsletter out.
Leaves had been on my list to visit for a while - definitely a unique coffee experience! www.emgoto.com/leaves-coffee/
www.emgoto.com/mt-houou/ New post on the blog, detailing my hike up Mt Houou. First time doing an overnight hike by myself with a tent so I had some pre-hike nerves 😮💨 but once I got going on the trail it was fun!
A wrap-up on my recent road trip around Izu www.emgoto.com/izu-roadtrip/
You can also see all the places I visited on this map! www.emgoto.com/map/izu/ Tbh if I didn't have the map I probably would have just done 1 post for the whole thing and called it a day. But the map weirdly incentivises me to want to properly mark down all the places that I've been.
I integrated my blog with bubbles.town - now there's a little bubble emoji down in the comments section of my posts. ... the one downside is that you need a Mastodon account to do any sort of upvoting on it 😅
I was a bit jealous of the Bear community as they had a built-in feed where all bear bloggers could congregate (bearblog.dev/discover/), so it felt like perfect timing to stumble upon Bubbles, which does the same thing. Unsure how useful it'll be? For now I'll keep it on my blog and see how it goes
New hike up on the blog - Mt Omuro isn't much of a hike since you can take a chairlift right up, but it's a very scenic peak nonethless. www.emgoto.com/mt-omuro/
I've been a bit guilty of neglecting my /now page so I decided to convert into more of a feed-style with new posts, comments and other updates. www.emgoto.com/now/
Managed to get this @standard.site thing working 😎 (I'll admit as it stands I'm not convinced of its benefits. Do we need to wait until more aggregator-type sites like docs.surf pop up?) www.emgoto.com/cape-manazuru/
Japan has sooo many coffee roasters - I'm having a lot of fun visiting them, but still feel like I have so much to learn too 😅 www.emgoto.com/japanese-cof...
I'm slowly trying to walk my way around the Yamanote train line - previously I did Ueno to Nippori www.emgoto.com/ueno-to-nipp...
And then I did Osaki to Takanawa Gateway! I'm finding I don't really ever have a "reason" to go to these places specifically so it's nice to slowly explore it via walks. www.emgoto.com/osaki-to-tak...
www.emgoto.com/mt-ryugatake/ Some nice Fuji views from my hike up to Mt Ryugatake last week!
New hike on the blog, featuring Mt Fuji views, some (unexpected) cherry blossoms at the peak, plus some cows for good measure www.emgoto.com/mt-ono/
Been nearly a month since my last hike, but I'm back at it! It was recently cherry blossom season in Tokyo so I wanted to get in at least one cherry blossom hike - Mt Iwadono in Yamanashi was a pretty good one. www.emgoto.com/mt-iwadono/
Random thing that I vibe-coded recently - when I open a new tab in my browser, it opens an editable week note page for the current week. Behind-the-scenes it's just displaying a file from @obsidian.md - a bit handier than having to switch windows, and it automatically makes a new file each week.
A new post up on bear safety when hiking in Japan www.emgoto.com/hiking-bears...
Happy April! Got the latest edition of my monthly newsletter out on the blog www.emgoto.com/newsletter/m...
New hike up on the blog to Chiba's most popular mountain - Mt Nokogiri. It's fairly low elevation at 329m, so a great one to check off in the colder months! www.emgoto.com/mt-nokogiri/
After 8 years at Atlassian, I was one of the 1600 people laid off today. Although there had been rumours brewing lately, it was still an absolutely surreal email to receive this morning. Going to enjoy a bit of a break, do some more hiking, and then figure out what's next!
Atlassian lays off 1,600 workers ahead of AI push
New hike up on the blog featuring some very pretty kawazu sakura. www.emgoto.com/mt-miura-fuji/
A couple of new notes up about my snowboarding weekend in Muikamachi - it's such a pretty town ❄️ www.emgoto.com/muikamachi-a...
This month I tried out knitting for the first time - bit of a rough start but I think I've managed to figure out the basics 😅 www.emgoto.com/knitting-get...
I've accumulated photos of nearly 40 different birds now, so I decided to make a dedicated page for them on my blog! Was debating whether to branch out into other animals and bugs but I think I will keep it simple and just go with birds for now www.emgoto.com/birding/
I had this vision in my head for a while now for what my Map page should look like and I think I'm kind of there now! You can now filter by location and category, which could be handy e.g. if you are looking for hikes to do in a specific area 👀 🗺️ www.emgoto.com/map/
