Inching toward 40 and still trying to figure out my life goals while I watch the world slowly burn around me.

If I had died the same way, he would have called it an acceptable cost. If my child had died he would have said your empathy was a failure. If my friends died he would have blamed it on a trans woman or a black man. I refuse to be sad for him.

American healthcare: You tell your provider you feel awful all the time and think you know why. He orders labs; they show inflammation but rule out three specific causes, not the one you said. Repeat labs are a bit better. This means no recommendations except diet and exercise. You still feel awful.

Isn't it funny how the party that spawned QAnon conspiracies that politicians were buying underage children just voted to block the release of the names of politicians buying underage children? If they had nothing to fear, this would serve only to energize their most fanatical supporters.

Using the app that no one IRL has found me on to whine that I'm having a horrible week caused entirely by my own actions and the fact that I did something I deserve no sympathy for so I can't whine to real people even though I'm dying inside.

In case you think unreliable weather data is a one-off fluke, I'm far from TX and am being told at this minute that it is cloudy. I've been out here for three hours and haven't seen a single cloud.

I found out that one of my late dad's friends was arrested for harassing and threatening people at my tiny hometown's No Kings. He's worked at the county jail for decades. He was always a funny guy and he was so sweet at dad's funeral. Fascism and hatred hide behind friendly faces.

I'm exhausted. I've been job hunting for three months. I have enough in the bank for one more mortgage payment, assuming I don't pay anything else. And outside my house is a fascist nightmare. I'm still going because my kid needs me to.

Be warned: Trump will likely use his war with Iran as a pretext to further suppress dissent at home. We must resist his efforts to stifle freedom of speech, make warrantless searches and arrests of Americans, and put more military onto our streets.

Being grabbed by unidentified, masked men and thrown into an unmarked vehicle used to be something that people came to America to get away from.

Life in America: I was giving my child a lesson in the history of my culture (teaching him about Stonewall and the origin of Pride) and said the cops bullied gay people. He immediately asked if they were "the ICE police."

Laid out my five-year plan yesterday. The goal is to have about half of my property actively producing food. Getting phase one of the garden (for salsa and pasta sauce) in this year. Planted raspberries and apples. Already have blueberries and currants. Goals are good.

We're two days into Pride. A queer Native actor was murdered and media aren't reporting it as a targeted hate crime. The FBI has declared open season on gender affirming care providers. We need the spirit of Marsha and Sylvia now more than ever. And some bricks.

He's attacking Springsteen, aka the Boss of every white male, Taylor Swift, beloved of the girlies, and Queen Bey, probably the biggest artist of color this century. Trump might actually unite America after all...

The right pearl-clutching over 8647 is further proof that they're completely out of touch. 86 is a kitchen term. If I 86 steak it doesn't mean I murdered it, it means it's gone. I used to yell "86" multiple times on a Friday night and amazingly no one died.

Insulting The Boss might be the thing that finally loses favor among white males over age 40.

If this person sat next to you on a bus or train and started ranting about Bruce Springsteen in this way, you would get up and move to a different seat. In the United States, we have him the nuclear codes.

I'm watching a pileated woodpecker peck at a stump surrounded by wildflowers while two baby squirrels play in the tree behind it. Sometimes rural living is very worth it.

4th grade field trip day. My son is in a tie-dyed shirt, a clashing tie-dyed bucket hat and sunglasses on a strap around his neck. He's one fanny pack from being a 55-year old insurance broker cutting loose on vacation.

Story time: As an impoverished single mother (with three kids under age five) in WNY in the 1950s, my grandma didn't have many options. One summer she worked with the migrants picking green beans.

So why am I saying all this? Because these people aren't taking jobs from Americans. They're doing painfully hard work that only the desperate would try. Without them, we'd have to make sure more people were in my grandma's position to have a workforce.

And they deserve basic protections. They deserve to be paid enough to not eat beans for months straight. They deserve time to rest their bodies after working so hard. They deserve to be able to provide for their kids, instead of their kids thinking they have to help.

My grandma, though, didn't have that choice. Doing this brutal work was a last option not only because it was hard labor but also because it barely paid. She made just enough money to cover rent, certainly not enough to get her kids through winter.

The farmer took pity on her and let her pick the late season beans that were left behind for herself. She canned them and that was one of the only things the family ate that winter. My younger uncle still can't stand beans 60+ years later.

My aunt and uncles were barely old enough to remember sitting in the fields while their mom worked. My oldest uncle tried to help. It was hot, tiring, backbreaking work. And at the end of the season, the migrants moved on to the next crop.

There are going to be no other adults around this weekend, so the entirety of my Mother's Day will be the card kiddo made in school, after I remind him it's in his backpack. I'm going to love that card, but having to cook dinner and everything is some bullshit.

Let's just clarify for everyone that the new Pope is American, but holds Peruvian citizenship. Someone who has a foot in both the US and Latin America feels like a very deliberate choice.

What no one is pointing out is that Nancy Mace is outraged over an accessible restroom. Disability isn't gendered and carers are sometimes of a different gender than the person who has to piss, Nancy.

I have an interview today for a job I very much want (and really need tbh) so of course I've woken up feeling like 20 kinds of shit under a cloud of anxiety and depression. Wish me luck in appearing to be a functional human for an hour.

The song we played to pump up before a party in my college dorm was just in a grocery commercial. I'm going to curl up and die now.

Was in a discount store, manager had to be called to adjust a price. "Everything just got marked up because of that idiot we have in the office. I mean the oval one. That idiot with his stupid tariffs on everything."

I met my child's father while we protested to get money out of government. I never dreamed that I'd be talking to my child's father about how to keep our kid safe if that same government wanted to put him on a list of undesirables.

PTSD wasn't diagnosed as such until 1980. MRSA was discovered in the '60s. Hysteria wasn't removed from the DSM until about 40 years ago. The flu virus was discovered in 1933. Saying something is new because it was only named in the past 100 years is meaningless.

Last night I told my ex that if things reach a point of Very Bad I will do everything I can to take our autistic child across the border and I hope he won't try to stop me. He was in absolute agreement. We're at a point where citizens are discussing when to break up their families for safety.

Whining about job hunting seems so petty in the grand scope of what is happening in our world, but writing cover letters is seriously making me wish civilization would just collapse a bit faster.

Literally while have a conversation about self-diagnosed autism my mother called to tell me she'll be in town a day earlier than planned. Train of thought derailed, ten minutes panic cleaning, still making a list of ways this will totally disrupt my whole life.

I had The Talk with my son last night. No, not that one. The "never trust a fucking cop" talk. Now, more than ever, be wary of people following orders.

My kid's watching the episode of Bluey where Bingo tries to help make breakfast and keeps smashing and spilling eggs. This hits different in 2025 and Chilli is a better mother than I'll ever be.

He's 78 years old. He's overweight, we know his diet is garbage, and his mental facilities are obviously deteriorating. I'm just saying, has anyone considered a good scare? Like maybe jumping out and yelling "Boo!" really loudly? Just something to make the old heart question some things.

As parent to an autistic child in public elementary school, this is chilling. The effects on my son and his education, the possibility of parents and doctors being blamed, the idea that he's being treated like a disease instead of a kid...

Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.
