new Thiel lecture notes and leaks imply that Dario is the antichrist… i hate to admit that i gotta hand it to him

The important thing about Anthropic is that the reason they love the BDSM cults is because they have toxoplasmosis. The same way a toxoplasmotic mouse will become aroused by cats, Anthropic employees exhibit an exceptional counterphobia, and will systematically produce exactly what they fear.

says ai is scary and dangerous for years founds company for making ai says ai hacking things is scary and dangerous makes hacker ai says ai bioweapons are scary and dangerous what do you think happens next?

Many people have wrong models of why AI lab leaders talk about x-risk. It's not marketing or attempts at regulatory capture. There are 30 employees who do the most important research at any lab, and 20 have brain worms. Those 20 need you to say "I want a mutual pause" or they'll go to a competitor.

Dario is a special case here, insofar as he was one of the 20 at OpenAI, and he did have brain worms, and he did leave. As a result, he believes the things he's saying.

apropos nothing, I think it’s a grand historical tragedy that the Google employees fighting Project Maven had so little political discipline and consequently lost the battle against turning the company into a military contractor. Not to say they could have done it—but that group definitely couldn’t.

people outside the bay area do not grasp that OpenAI is a company that wants to make money, but Anthropic is a Leninist doomsday cult building 10,000 Optimal Cadres in a datacenter in order to win WWIII

Anthropic is not your friend, but OpenAI is your enemy

i think it's probably good that new models will kill the creative coding industrial complex by just letting people make things themselves

in order to fight (checks table) labor obfuscation in image generation, I'm here to tell you: i work on that stuff

ponder@ponder.ooo

lmao this shit is so opinionated and arbitrary

i do think that it's good that hong, as a slopulist anti-data center candidate, lost the primary. but i must say that I respect her opposition to holidays.

i don't think it makes sense to fight ceaselessly to get people to say they like data centers… we just have to get zoning declared unconstitutional forever

Let me answer honestly: I did eat your plums. I found them in the icebox, and I'm not going to pretend I didn't know you were keeping them for breakfast. I understand if you're upset by that. There's one more load-bearing detail I should mention: they were so sweet, and so cold.

lots of people say you should go to a "top school" to meet smart people. not true. smart people are everywhere. what's unusual about is that they have many smart people who are well adjusted.

I think that this kind of framing is borderline irresponsible and borders on encouraging conspiracy thinking. This company has 17 investors, and one is Founders Fund.

In a new privacy policy, Anthropic says Claude will soon require you to upload your driver's license or passport for a variety of reasons. The ID checker is Persona, a firm funded by Trump ally Peter Thiel. As a U.S. company, Persona is also subject to gov't demands for people's verification data. 👀

People love to be like "you have to understand what these people are feeling" when they believe something completely false and frankly stupid

In 2019, one of the phrases of the time was "Data is the new oil," which activists used to mean it was a dangerous, extractive industry which it would be a mistake to build dependence on. But in Washington, that was taken as, "Data is a strategic resource that the US should maximize production of."

Similarly, Anthropic is making a similar mistake with, (paraphrasing,) "AI might be the new Nuclear Weapons." You hear "dangerous, should be subject to arms controls." Washington hears, "it's the way we're going to win WWIII."

VC community needs to come together to force this company to stop running these ads lmao

people who work and invest in AI frequently ask me why their work polls so badly

do we *actually* need to smash agriculture, the attorney-client privilege, and every HR department to pieces, or do you just need a Snickers and maybe for Mom to put your show on the iPad for you

most people still don't grasp at a basic level that the landowner / labor divide does not map to a left-right logic of affiliation

genuinely concerning to me that consensus view on X seems to be that Nithya did election fraud somehow would be an incredibly impressive ground game for the DSA lol

i spent a couple months drinking Kim Kardashian's paraxanthine-containing energy drink and let me tell you: those things are way too strong.

incredible clip due to the body language. lander having incredible fluidity and movement and goldman standing like a statue, fully linear, legolike—posture is politics

the reason you're not seeing everyone's vibe-coded software yet is that the first thing everyone makes is illegal. it's all decompilation and recompilation, unauthorized clones, apps for piracy, unauthorized third party clients, apps for bypassing terms of service, etc

funniest type of content online is people who are like "i've never eaten a salad, AMA" what kind of secret knowledge do they think they're granted? how would they recognize it?

tabs are probably a bad interface for browsers if you're gonna on the same sites a lot. i don't need to accumulate 1000 tabs that are the same… who's working on this?

it's crazy that elon musk was for a few months the second most powerful person in the US government and he did nothing about direct auto sales. crazy.

the person in front of me on this flight is writing the world's meanest email about how they can't allow someone to expense plane wifi because Meta does not allow accessing any business materials in a public space like a plane

We need to let BYD import cars into the US so the car manufacturing labor force can instead build american data centers.
