Today’s news about President Lula being reelected and the student uprising in Serbia makes me think my new novel about the transformation of society might not be so far fetched after all… #lifeimitatesart #solarpunk #democracy #hope #booksky #fiction

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

Amazing! “This is a huge victory for the Brazilian people who in the second round had the chance to think about what President Lula means for the environment, for the defence of our national health service and our education system and for the Brazilian constitution.”

Shocking. 😳 #Google fell 250,000 trees for a data centre. Around quarter of a million trees occupied the 815 acres of forest in northern Finland. Now they are gone. Google illegally stripped the area – taking even the top soil with it – and all that remains is a vast expanse of mud. #ecocide

Couldn’t make it to London for the protest against the stupid & dangerous decision to approve the #Jackdaw gas field, so here’s mine from Worthing. The government clearly still doesn’t understand the dangers of the #climateemergency and/or is in the pockets of fossil fuel companies and lobbyists.

There is already more than enough fossil fuel being extracted to cover demand while we switch to alternatives. We should be accelerating the switch, not adding to the problem. And there is so much more the government could do, right now.

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

Emma Cameron reposted

"This decision will support the country’s energy security with homegrown gas this winter and help minimise the UK’s use of imported higher emission fuels as we continue our transition to renewables and nuclear." The minister is knowingly spouting utter bullshit, this decision is insane

Among Keir Starmer's worst deeds were his legislative and rhetorical attacks on nature protection. In those two wasted years, we spiralled backwards, even from the Tory legacy. Governments look almost certain to miss nearly all of the targets – potentially continuing the record of never having met a single UN target on nature since the biodiversity convention was created in 1992. UK is on track to meet just 3 of the 23 targets by the end of the decade. #biodiversityloss

Terrible news 😢 Wild bird populations in the UK have fallen to their lowest level since records began, with nearly half of species in decline. Farmland bird populations have decreased by 63% since 1970. The decline is due to changes in farming, increased pesticide use, & the removal of hedgerows.
