And there’s a real question of whether Chinese intelligence even targeted the right guy here - Rogers’ defense team argued that as an economist he didn’t even know the most secret secrets of the Fed at all.

The central question that the jury wrestled with was this: Was Rogers a witting Chinese spy, or simply a dupe who fell for a sophisticated intelligence operation against him? Let me know what YOU think.

A couple things really stood out to me in this saga: all spies everywhere look for people with human vulnerabilities that they can exploit- and Rogers certainly had those. But things like his nude selfies were essentially human weaknesses + any institution, including the Fed, is made up of humans.

This is a subhed for the ages in the WSJ this morning: “Talk of heading off artificial intelligence’s potential role in destroying humanity hurt some stocks and helped others”

My favorite personal Alan Greenspan memory is going to a Bill Clinton White House party on the South Lawn which weirdly featured a Ferris wheel on White House grounds, and finding myself riding on the giant wheel with Greenspan.

‪I should have said something like: “economic cycles, am I right?” Or “the economy: nothing but ups and downs.” But my dad joke skills were not yet what they would become. ‬

I spoke to President Trump on the phone last hour about the end of negotiations with the Iranians. He told me: “I don’t care if they’re over, honestly. I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less. If they’re over, they’re over. If they’re not, you know, I think they took too much time.”
