DynamoDB gotcha: PutItem doesn't care if the item already exists. In a create endpoint, a repeated id quietly replaces the old record. Adding attribute_not_exists(id) as a condition turns that into an error you can return as a 409. What other "create" calls are secretly upserts? #aws #backend

On 9th October a DynamoDB read of an item with a vector in it cost 2 read units. On 22nd October the same read cost 1. I can't find anything from AWS about it, and the 400KB limit still counts the vector the old way. #dynamodb https://martinhicks.dev/articles/dynamodb-vector-read-billing

martinhicks.devDynamoDB changed how it bills a vector readA DynamoDB read of an item with a vector attribute cost 2 read units on 9th October 2026 and 1 on 22nd October. What changed, what didn't, and what I can't explain.
