Explaincars Drama: passengers should never touch the flight attendant panel. The FAP is off limits at all times while on board. Hands to yourself. C’mon people.

My little Bay Area city wants to replace its dilapidated community center built in 1949. To pay for this voters, need to pass a new property tax. To help the property tax pass, the measure allows people over 65 years old to opt-out of paying. And still there are retirees campaigning against this 🙁
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.
I feel like I’m the only person with a Yes on Measure RTM sign in my city. I customized mine to be more relevant to my community. 🚂
About 3 weeks left to get the message out for Yes on RTM and save transit in the Bay Area - want to put up a yard sign or pass out materials? Fill out the form here! docs.google.com/forms/d/1QTS...

Through this measure, I learned a lot about roads - and how expensive they are to maintain. Once you go down the rabbit hole of PCI (Pavement Condition Index), there's no going back! See how your city is doing on this page: vitalsigns.mtc.ca.gov/indicators/s...
“We're not quite back at the level of the 1950s, when cars would get completely new designs every single year“ Completely redesigned every year? That must’ve been wild for quality control.
The current Kia Sportage has only been on sale since 2022, and the next-generation model is almost ready to launch with an even wackier design.

Explaincars Drama: reminder that the threat levels range from 1-4 with 4 being the highest. The guidance for level 3 is “life-threatening behavior or display of a weapon”, so this is quite a serious and relatively rare occurrence, most of the disruptive passenger reports we see are level 1 or 2.

Alaska Air is introducing new planes with luxury lie-flat seats, but also without seatback screens (IFE) for economy seats - aka bring your iPad. This is quite the price segmentation-MAXxing for Alaska!
Executives confirm that the economy class cabin on the Aurora MAX 10s will *NOT* have IFE screens. I think this is a massive mistake. But they say it helps preserve the premium experience.
I flew from London to Sydney once 1. Very thankful work paid for business class 2. I enjoyed the brief layover in Bangkok - that was a good break
Qantas confirms that 18-hour Project Sunrise nonstops from Sydney to New York will begin in mid-2028. Tickets will go on sale in August 2027. This is Qantas second ultra-long-haul route from Sydney after London that begins in October 2027.
I used to work in Downtown San Jose. Here's a photo I took of the Guadalupe River during the 2019 El Nino season. That was a lot of water!
I'm declaring a state of emergency to mobilize state resources for a potentially historic El Niño winter in California. With higher risks of heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides over the next several months, we're launching a whole-of-government effort to protect Californians.
The last owners of my house would be in their 100s now. I still get generic addressed mail that's clearly aimed at them. The ones that bug me the most are the ones that look like letters from the government, with fictional Department of titles - and then a tiny disclaimer inside.
Random note; since my dad passed away last December, I’ve been handling all of my mom’s mail and accounts. It is incredible. How many scams are aimed at the elderly in this country, including my companies that superficially seem legitimate. Every week her mail is full of this crap.
In college I took a course on Oceanography. It was surprisingly hard. But the one key memory I'll always have was the day the professor got super emotional when talking about erosion and exclaimed with religious fervor: Don't fight the ocean! You will not win! DON'T! DO! IT!
Every city in this story fights erosion with rocks and sandbags, short-term fixes for a crisis that could erase up to 75% of California's beaches by 2100. www.latimes.com/california/s...
I'd been wondering how this America West Airlines dba US Air dba American experiment of not having seatback screens would pan out. I guess this is the conclusion:
