The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Some good news for a change

Anne Applebaum@anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

💥A must read💥 We can join the EU within a parliament 👇

Best for Britain@bestforbritain.org

🚨Our new research reveals the UK could rejoin the EU within a single Parliament. Reports that accession would take a decade are wide of the mark. Read more in the @financialtimes.com 👇 www.ft.com/content/3aa9...

Was die Debatte macht? #Ungleichheit

"Few things could more astutely summarise the state of our national politics in 2026, than the spectacle of such a ludicrous character, whose head looks like a grey bucket with a gaping mouth drawn on it, standing in a totally pointless by-election against Count Binface."

Nick Boom, Stanford University professor, on the negative impact of Brexit: “Among economists there is not much debate, but there still is among policy folks. The experts were right. It was, if anything, worse than we thought, but it’s taken longer to get there.”

Another brilliant episode with @pimlicat.bsky.social, @sturdyalex.bsky.social and special guest @mrjamesob.bsky.social. Loved the eloquent in-depth analysis of where the UK now stands on #Brexit.

I just hope that the pro-EU case is not reduced to economics again when there is so much more to the relationship of the UK with the rest of Europe: Historical, cultural, personal ties as vividly described in this episode.
