That's a wrap for #Interrail2026, onto #FSBI2026! Happily doing #FSBIGreenTravel by taking 2 trains (Strasbourg>Paris>London) yesterday & a train to Southampton this morning. Duty free in hand. Big thanks to France's high speed rail! Join me at the #JFB workshop at 1330 to talk publishing/publicity!

Check out my recent #JFB Editor's Choice: "What big eyes you have! Well, until 500โ€‰m, that is": doi.org/10.1111/jfb..... Using an incredible image repository, authors show that larger eye investment peaked at 500m, after which expensive eye structures weren't worth it. Paper by Pinti et al.

Who else is going to #FSBI2026 in Southampton this July? I'm excited to see how we can reduce our env footprint for the Green Travel Awards! Tell us your ideas & tag #FSBIGreenTravel. Even just buying C offsets helps if you need to fly! I am doing walk-train-bus this year. You? @thefsbi.bsky.social

Great to be at Scotland Nature Student Conference, aptly represented by previous president of the FSBI, Professor Colin Adams! The FSBI is a strong advocate for students and early career researchers, with a string of funding opportunities available to members. Membership starts at just ยฃ10!

Today is the official deadline for applications to this lovely freshwater, fishy, eDNA PhD, but the portal will be open throughout the weekend, ready for any last minute submissions! #PhD #PhDOppertunity

Such a pleasure to give the welcoming address to #WEEN25 last week in my capacity as one of the Wales Ecology and Evolution Network's directors. I gave a brief history of the network, how it has developed in recent years, while also welcoming early career researchers from all over Wales to Cardiff

Had such a laugh hosting the #FSBI2025 pub quiz last night. Turns out, coming up with 60 questions for a room full of academics, arbiters of truth, is far more difficult than first anticipated...! Felt like a second viva!

The last leg of yesterday's #FSBIGreenTravel, crossing the Irish Sea, quick stop in Dublin and then up north! Such a smooth trip, and a new found love of ferries. The perfect start to #FSBI2025!

#FSBI2025 here we come! Roped my lovely students into this long journey from Essex to Belfast! Walked to Wivenhoe station & now on train to Liverpool to get ferry. Wish us luck! The #FSBIGreenTravel to #FSBI2025 continues after a pit stop in Bangor, spending a wonderfully raucous evening with dear friend and colleague, Gary Carvalho! Treated to a bounty of vegetarian dishes. Produce which was in the garden 5 mins before. Now a quick train to Holyhead and the ferry awaits!

On my way to #FSBI2025 in Belfast, and my #FSBIGreenTravel is well underway! The first leg involves a journey from #Cardiff to #Bangor. After making my way through a sea of bucket hats, with the aftermath of Oasis' opening night in Cardiff, I'm on one of Transport for Wales' new, greener trains!
