At a time when our world seem increasingly divided, effort to #EndPolio reminds us of what is possible when we unite behind a common purpose. One day soon, we will mark the final #WorldPolioDay. And then we will have something truly worth celebrating: a polio-free world. Let’s make it happen!

Science gives us hope. Today, in Bunia #DRC, the first participants were vaccinated in a new #Ebola vaccine trial called TUMAINI, which means “hope” in Swahili. There is currently no approved vaccine against the Bundibugyo virus causing the outbreak.

This trial will help us understand whether any of the vaccine candidates designed for Bundibugyo virus work. In the meantime, the existing Everbo vaccine (licensed for use in preventing other Ebola virus disease) will be tested. @who.int is supporting DRC-led effort to find answers & save lives.

The @who.int Country Cooperation Strategy for the Republic of #Korea for 2026 to 2030 identifies digital health, health security and climate resilience as priorities, while creating opportunities to share Korean experience with countries around the world.

Investment in people, science and institutions has made this country a global leader in technology and innovation, and an increasingly important contributor to global health. Together, we can turn Korea’s strengths into better health for people all over the world.

#France has reported the first documented case of a human infection with #Shamonda virus, a virus only previously detected in animals. The patient was immunocompromised, which made them more vulnerable to infection & severe disease, & unfortunately died. My heartfelt condolences to their loved ones

My sincere thanks to Republic of #Korea's President Lee Jae Myung for his warm welcome & 🇰🇷's steadfast partnership with @who.int. We discussed WHO Biomanufacturing Training Hub in Seoul, which has trained 4,000+ professionals from 100 countries. It was an honour to inaugurate its building yesterday.

We also discussed harnessing #AI for better health; the Pandemic Agreement negotiations on Pathogen Access & Benefit Sharing, the Ebola response in DRC, & 🇰🇷's role in strengthening global preparedness and multilateral cooperation.

Honored to inaugurate the building of the @who.int Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing in Incheon, Republic of #Korea. The Hub has already trained more than 4,000 participants from more than 100 low and middle income countries.

My gratitude to 🇰🇷 Health Minister Eun-Kyeong Jeong and the Korean Government for their substantial investment of $30 million in the Hub, to provide tuition-free health education. This commitment is key to reaching our common goal of living in a healthier world.

Young people are helping shape the future of global health. I was so pleased to see the new members of the @who.int Youth Council at the #WHS2026: bit.ly/4s1AP1G I look forward to your ideas, your leadership and, importantly, to being challenged by you. Together, for a healthier, safer, fairer 🌍.

This important milestone reflects a shared commitment to equity, global solidarity and collective action to make the world safer from future pandemics. We also welcome the ambition to successfully conclude negotiations on the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing Annex.

Nothing symbolizes 🇩🇪's support more than its hosting of the @who.int Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence. At the #WHS2026, I reiterate our ambition that, through this Hub, by 2030, every country will be able to detect and understand any new health threat within 24 hours of its emergence.

To get there, we will build on trusted digital foundations and harness new tools, including AI-powered simulation, to turn early signals into early action. I thank 🇩🇪 for its steadfast commitment and leadership, as well as our founding partners, the @rki.de and Charite for their continued support.

As a father and grandfather, I want the same for every girl as I want for my own daughters and granddaughters: to grow up healthy, safe, and free to pursue their dreams. But the reality for millions of girls is very different.

Every year, around 21M adolescent girls become pregnant in low- and middle-income countries. One in four girls who have been in a relationship experiences physical or sexual violence from a partner. And many girls still miss out on vaccines that could protect them from cervical cancer later in life.

These are not just statistics. Behind every number is a girl whose health, choices and future are at stake. As we marked #DayOfTheGirl, let’s commit to give every girl the chance to live a healthy life and fulfil her potential. No exceptions.

People with lived experience are asked to share their stories but are often excluded from policy decisions. We call on all decision makers to move from listening to action & build mental health systems with people who live with mental health conditions, not merely for them. #WorldMentalHealthDay

Since the first media reports, @who.int has been actively following up on the reported death of a laboratory worker at the Irkutsk Antiplague Research Institute in Irkutsk oblast, Russian Federation. My full statement ⬇️

#Kenya has reported a case of #Ebola caused by Bundibugyo virus, in a Kenyan citizen who had been living in #DRC. The patient became ill in DRC & received treatment in several hospitals, then travelled from DRC to Nairobi via Kampala. He died in Nairobi yesterday. My condolences to his loved ones.

@who.int advises against any restriction of travel to, or trade with, the affected countries based on the currently available information. We continue to closely monitor and, where necessary, verify travel and trade measures in relation to this epidemic.

Good news from @who.int ahead of the weekend: people are living longer. Global life expectancy reached 73.3 years in 2023, almost fully recovering the years lost during COVID-19 ⬇️ Now we must make sure people don’t just live longer, but live those extra years in good health. #HealthForAll

The #Ebola virus had a head start in the #DRC, and we are still playing catch-up. The response is growing stronger and we are seeing encouraging signs. But this epidemic is far from over. My update on the progress, challenges and what it will take to stop it ⬇️

That’s a wrap on #UNGA. Different countries. Different priorities. Different perspectives. But health is one thing that connects us all. Preparedness for future health threats is a shared responsibility.

Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response is not just an aspiration. It is a global public good. My one ask to world leaders at the #UNGA High-Level Meeting: get the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing annex to the Pandemic Agreement done. As soon as possible.

We welcome today’s Call to Action on Humanitarian access and Health, and thank 🇬🇧, 🇶🇦 and 🇯🇴 for keeping Gaza’s health needs high on the #UNGA agenda. The best medicine is peace. Until then, we must do everything possible to save lives, alleviate suffering and restore access to health care.

This #UNGA, @eib.org and @who.int came together to discuss how to mobilise capital at scale alongside development banks, philanthropy and the private sector to turn health challenges into investment opportunities and measurable results. Together! #HealthForAll

Congratulations to Mike Bloomberg on his reappointment as @who.int Global Ambassador for NCDs & Injuries, marking 10 years of partnership and impact From tobacco control & road safety to data for health & now lead poisoning, your leadership has helped put the prevention higher on the global agenda

22,022 steps and counting. That was day one of #UNGA. Walking and talking, quite literally. A healthy challenge to my fellow leaders this week: make every step count. Between meetings, Walk the Talk for your own health and for #HealthForAll the people we are here to serve.

We are seeing encouraging signs that we are gaining ground against #Ebola in the #DRC. But to slow this outbreak and stop it, we need more resources. We are grateful to all donors who have supported the response. More support is urgently needed. Full update ⬇️

If it isn’t safe, it isn’t care. For people living with heart disease, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory disease, care is lifelong. A delayed diagnosis, wrong medicine, unsafe procedure or poor communication can cost lives. Everyone deserves safe care, for life. #WorldPatientSafetyDay

In #Gaza, the humanitarian emergency continues to deepen, with public health risks growing as winter approaches and most people remain displaced in overcrowded tented camps. The already overwhelmed health system cannot withstand additional surges in disease and illness. The best medicine is peace.

The launch of a stockpile of #mpox vaccines is an important step towards ensuring that countries can access vaccines more quickly when they need them, saving lives and containing outbreaks before they spread further. My thanks to all partners involved: www.who.int/news/item/02...

In the fight against the #Ebola epidemic in #DRC, we have made a lot of progress, but it’s not enough, & we still face major challenges. Earning and keeping community trust & community ownership are key to changing the trajectory of the epidemic. My latest update on the situation & the response ⬇️
