Your all-too-regular reminder that Republicans in Congress think this is just fine.

I understand that this is facially apparent but I don’t think it really hits without repeating: the minute the rules changed, these states immediately turned to the *most racist* maps, the ones the courts had already said were *too racist*

BREAKING: In an unsigned, per curiam opinion on the shadow docket, the SCOTUS conservatives allow Alabama to use a congressional map held repeatedly by a lower court to have been enacted with discriminatory intent.

…for citizens. Our societal structure is one of capitalism + democracy + social services & public works. We can argue the merits of that and make tweaks all day, but NO system works when it has been hijacked by leaches intent on sucking it dry for every penny. Thx for coming to my ted talk :)

AND … I will add, the parties are NOT the same. Republicans are infinitely worse in their current form than democrats… but they didn’t bring us to our current situation alone.

Examples of "the best government that money can buy" are becoming more depressing. Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted accepted more than $115,000 in campaign contributions from Les Wexner, one of 6 people listed as Epstein's co-conspirators, and then voted against releasing the Epstein files.

“Democrats are afraid of what they’ll find in the Epstein Files. They don’t want full accountability.” I will burn the Democratic Party to the ground and piss on the ashes if I find out our leaders were involved in a massive child sex trafficking operation. Every Democrat I know feels the same.

This is the second account - the first being in Chicago - of DHS agents mass detaining people and then *sorting them by race*.

Joe Robertson@joro.bsky.social

More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

Somehow facebook thought I would want to see: 1) pro ICE content defending ICE threats towards protestors and explaining why ICE has the “right to rip protestors out of cars and should” 2) ads from ADL explaining the awful history of anti-Zionism The fascists must be getting desperate.

I and millions of Americans believe exactly the same thing Kasparov does. Too many troops, too many new prisons, too much money not under Congressional supervision. We're not just witnessing a mass deportation scheme anymore. This is something significantly bigger and scarier.

The entire McDonnell quote of “we can’t use X so Y is our alternative” is indicative of such a disingenuous lack of of imagination and problem solving rampant in the dept. It’s no wonder LAPD leaders and the city consistently fail to do anything but ask for a larger budget year over year.

Adam Rose@adamrose.bsky.social

Horrific account of what so-called "less lethal" munitions do to people's faces. Don't forget: LAPD fired over 1000 rounds in a single day at mostly peaceful protesters. Important coverage by @shoton35mm.bsky.social for @lataco.bsky.social. WARNING: Graphic. Don't read while eating or near kids.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.” What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

When the U.S. Supreme Court said that you could detain people based on their race, their accent, or the language they spoke… there is nothing to preclude ICE from doing that while you’re standing in line getting ready to cast a ballot. Stacey Abrams Voting-rights expert

Can we force this into a ballot proposition initiative? I heard an officer saying because it was not law and was essentially an executive order by Newsom LAPD policy could disregard it. Can’t we force it in via a prop?

Absolutely infuriating that even when we in California change the law to do things like ban ice agents from hiding their identity, wearing masks, and operating as a secret force we are sidestepped by an all too willing and complicit LAPD chief who won’t enforce the policy empowering ICE further.

👀Now that ICE/DHS are planning to buy ‘mega’ warehouse detention centers across the US to house human beings you might want to listen to this gentleman’s history lesson that he delivered at a city council meeting in AZ. Congress needs to have hearings on this like yesterday.
