One more thing not on my bingo card.
I’m not a Social Democrat. But the tradition of George Orwell, Sidney Hook, and Lech Walesa is an impressive and honorable one. Will any of Trump’s intellectual defenders and sophisticated apologists say so? Will any of them step up to defend Social Democrats against this calumny?
Early on AOC's ideological statements were probably on the mark for what needed doing, but sounded unfeasible and a bit far fetched. she got dismissed by older pragmatists like Pelosi, who saw politics as compromising, planning, dealing, and applying pressure to get the correct number of votes. 1/
I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy. I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

To be fair, she did get the ACA through. But it galls me that Dems are cut out of power, holding onto their discipline to not say what they actually think, and see nothing viable in making a statement like this. It matters. If you're cut out of legislation you still can make your own bully pulpit 2/
Rav Yosef Blau, always the one to set the moral example.
@thebrianlehrershow.bsky.social There are opportunities to being in the minority. While you can't make policy you're freer to make purer, more eloquent political statements. The Republicans have known this for decades.
Elon's never espoused neo-reactionary ideology openly, and he and Peter Thiel have famously not gotten along. But I see him as in line with a lot of neo-reactionary ideas. I'm convinced Elon's convinced people suck and democracy is the worst form of government. 1/
I think his main character syndrome is what lets him make tons of money off Federal contracts and portray government as infinitely corrupt barriers to his genius. And I think he likes right wing models not because enlightenment democratic principles are wrong, because that's ideological thinking. 3/

Every time he says democracy Elon expects us to read that as a good thing when he's just disarming his critics while exploiting "the mob" to his benefit. To Elon we all deserve to be lied to and manipulated. I think he's one of those tech bros who draw all the wrong lessons from dystopian sci fi. 2/
About four hundred volumes of the lost library of Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin are recovered in a Warsaw Jewish archive.
Pretty unlikely they moves forward on this without talking to the incoming admin at the Department of Ed. Which is supposed to be eliminated, but that aside.
