Please read response below to GCSE resit 2025 situation. Not only but also curriculum approach. The resit world is rich with consequences of society’s shortcomings, society should respect this, policy makers should take note, funding priorities & infrastructure should definitely reflect this.

Great work by Guy and others, which mustn't go to waste. Please respond, however briefly, to this consultation, and help end the feudal tradition of secrecy and exclusion. Democracy dies in darkness.

Could centuries of secrecy about who owns our land soon end? A new government consultation proposes revealing who owns up to 95% of England and Wales. To stop this being blocked by big landowners, I need your help to send in supportive evidence. Here’s how: whoownsengland.org/2026/10/27/c...

Walt Whitman, in a notebook, c. 1854, points to “earliest times“ when “every thing written at all was poetry . . . history, laws, religion, war, were all in the keeping of the poet.“ And concludes with a curiously modernist sense, the omnivorous need to appropriate the unpoetic:

I think it is challenging for sec school teachers- they are charged with “teaching reading” yet are not trained to do so. In fact, most teachers could easily adapt their teaching to easily support reading development… But they would probably have to let the daily ppts go

When I work with student teachers on placement at our school, I ask what they've learnt so far about teaching reading. Quite often, they haven't covered anything (unless English trainees) and can't explain to me how they would use a disciplinary text to support reading. I find this surprising.

Elizabeth Draper @draperel reposted

Replying to @clarefeeneyuk.bsky.social

Reducing use of ppt and reading more authentic disciplinary text would support reading and writing development and help students to actively process the academic content. It should complement teacher explanation and modelling in most subjects. Teaching by ppt can oppose good literacy practice.
