It's almost time for Global Accessibility Awareness Day and I can finally share my thesis 🎉 It took a year but I managed to create a website with an #accessible #version of the 160-pages thesis on #AccessibilityOverlays, and some additional content! You can find it here: overlays.dnikub.dev ✨

Got ready for a fight after the #DesignSystem team was asked to create a read-only variant for checkboxes and radio buttons. I started preparing arguments why we shouldn‘t. But then the designers just accepted my proposal to present the content as regular text instead. It can be that easy. Love it!

If you’d have some education budget to blow before end of the year, what #web #accessibility related things would you spend it on? 💸 Any #courses, #books, etc. to recommend? (Conferences excluded unfortunately)

#A11y question about #ScreenReader Is it best practice to insert punctuation when using aria-describedby/labelledby with multiple IDs, when the referenced content has no comma or full stop at the end? 2 approaches I’ve seen so far down below ⬇️ 🧵(1/2)

1) aria-describedby=“newPrice commaID oldPrice” where commaID is a span containing “, “ and additional white spaces with ::before and ::after 2) populating a separate span with all the content, add in punctuation, then reference only the ID of this new span. WDYT? 🤔 🧵(2/2)

Well… that was a longer break than expected 👀 After losing all motivation to post and feeling completely uninspired about what to share, I decided to take a month off social media. And then it became another month. And another. And another. But now I‘m back! So… what did I miss? 😬

#ScreenReader I found a bug related to #NVDA in Firefox, but turns out it appears in version 2020.4 and not anymore in version 2026.1. Now I was wondering, how quickly people update to new versions and how far back we should support compliance 🤔 Are there stats on which NVDA version is used most?

Attended this years #BTConf in Düsseldorf again and was so occupied listening to the talks, catching up with friends while also making new connections, that I forgot to post 😄 best conference and totally recommend it, as always. See you next year @beyondtellerrand.com!

With all the yearly statistics being released, such as Spotify and LinkedIn Wrapped, my favourite so far was Lidl Wrapped. Apparently I bought 112 blocks of tofu this year, followed by 38 baguettes and 32 broccoli 😄

I got a new phone and am not yet used to this always on display. I have the constant feeling that I have a new message, which catches my attention, distracts me and is really stressing me out. Unsure if I'll get used to it at some point or if I should just turn this feature off 😅

In line with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the UX Salon Barcelona focused on #accessibility. Agnese D’Alfonso shared practical ways & examples from her work, to embed #a11y into everyday decision-making and collaboration with stakeholders to create products that work for everyone.

I was part of the peer review selection process for this year's #ZeroProject shortlisted nominees, and there are some amazing projects out there 🌱✨ Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the full list of all 75 awardees was published: zerocon26.zeroproject.org/components/5...

To record this episode, I transformed my living room into a video podcast studio. I spread all the cushions I could find on the floor, arranged various lights that I had collected from different rooms in my flat and used my suitcase as a laptop stand. I definitely felt like a pro with this set-up 😎

WIENFLUSS celebrated 20-years with a lovely party & #accessibility in mind 🎉🥂 You could try Braille Scrabble, learn about assistive devices, or relax in a room that had been decorated with candles and fairy lights to create a cosy atmosphere, offering some relief from #sensory #overload

What is a #browser #bookmarklet? A bookmarklet is a tiny app that you save in your browser's bookmarks bar, without the need to install anything. When you click on the bookmark, it adds functionality on the current page. Yes, it's that simple!

No sign-up. No registration. All sessions are streamed live and publicly, and include automated live closed captions. After the event, these are replaced by manually edited closed captions.

If you're interested in learning more about #testing software products for #accessibility, come and find me at the conference. I'd be happy to share some insights and tips, and chat about CAAT — our software to test digital products for accessibility in a structured and efficient way 🐱
