I'm posting this to tell the world that Texas has 3 LAN events π₯

there's a big misconception going around that if you play comp splatoon, your motivation is solely to improve, when that's simply not true for everyone
remember that this is a social space and outlet for people as well, and some would prefer just having fun compared to the work it takes to improve
I really like the point of "experience the game in as many ways as you can"
There's so much neuroscience that goes into that statement, but I'm not qualified to talk about it in depth
What follows is a very ranty and somewhat philosophical post so TL;DR
- Experience the game in as many ways as you can
- Observe, reflect, practice
- Improvement takes work and play in equal doses
A&M Esports has released the exam scores from yesterday's Maroon Lagoon, check out the podium placements below!

I told the team I'm coaching to do a X rank participation score instead of a normal XP race
Their goal is to see who can play the most number of X rank matches in a season
Sometimes it's not about raising an arbitrary number, but just putting in more hours when you can

This got a little too much attention π
I wanted to make it clear that even if Texas Splatoon was profitable (it's not, I do it at a loss), I wouldn't be putting any of that money into my own pocket
In this thread I will outline what my mindset is in regards to the finances of LAN running:

On the topic of sustainability,
I do believe that having a Splatoon-only mindset is short sided given how niche we are. This is at least for now until a larger culture is created around in-person Splatoon events. Until then, we will likely continue to rely on Smash for us to run majors.

These are all of the revenue sources I hope to tap into to make Splatoon events sustainable.
What would I do if we did profit?
Firstly, all of our TOs would be getting paid for their time and work. It wouldn't be a lot at first, but it would be a start.
(3/5)
Secondly, what's left would go towards building larger events that appeal to more than just Splatoon. H-Town in 2027 is already toying with this idea and I hope to continue to experimenting with this more.
I'm leaving this vague because there's so much room for creativity here.

I view event running as a small business with the following possible revenue sources:
- Registration fees
- Merch sales
- Social media ad revenue
- Sponsorships
- For larger events: Vendor table fees and concessions

Something my guitar teacher told me is that most students would have given up a month in with the book I'm choosing to learn from
I'm proud of myself for staying consistent
I just registered for Sunset Surge: Twilight Masquerade www.start.gg/ssurge#sunsetsurge
I've gotten my wins in Texas I'm coming for @shinypikmin.sunsetsurge.ink next :3
