A long read for those into this kind of thing: the Soviets had around 20 nuclear weapon storage sites in East Germany, most stripped, sealed or torn down after 1994. Sonderwaffenlager Stolzenhain is probably the last one in Germany still largely "intact". digitalcosmonaut.com/sonderwaffen...

A new post on the website: We explored the Sonderwaffenlager Stolzenhain, a Soviet nuclear warhead depot near Jüterbog. The GDR built and paid for it in 1967 - but the men who poured the concrete never found out what they had built... digitalcosmonaut.com/sonderwaffenlager-stolzenhain/

14 years ago we explored the abandoned Elisabeth Sanatorium. Built in 1912 as a private lung clinic, the property was seized by the Nazis and the family fled into exile. The property was returned to the family around 1995 with the intent to redevelope it... digitalcosmonaut.com/elisabeth-sa...

Some rather unremarkable Soviet Barracks in Saxony-Anhalt which were meant to hide the much more important command bunker close by. The bunkers been sealed since 2019 and the barracks have turned into a dumping ground. digitalcosmonaut.com/gssd-kaserne...

Not much left of this Lenin - though he does seem to have a more recent incarnation on a building nearby... digitalcosmonaut.com/gssd-kaserne...
You might have noticed that there have been substantial changes to the website. Ive completely revamped the look and feel of the content. This also means that im finally fixing all the broken posts/images that have accumulated over the years. Stil a long way to go but im very happy with the progress

Our guide to some of the best German cuisine in the Hauptstadt is updated and non-paywalled until the end of the month. www.slowtravelberlin.com/eating-germa...
someone inside the SPD seems to think that it needs to be fully destroyed before it can properly renew itself 👍🏻 - I wish them all the best with this Speedrun
The federal SPD is considering making Franziska Giffey, who has spent the past five years losing, in succession, her federal ministry, her doctor title due to plagiarism allegations, her position as mayor, her spot on the party list, and her seat in state parliament, its new leader.

Me: Mom, can we have US Presidential Busts? Mom: No, we have US Presidential Busts at home.
Presidents Park opened in Virginia in 2004, but went under only a few years later in 2010. The 20-foot tall busts of US presidents that were the park's main attraction were moved to a rural field, where they were left to decay. More at www.abandonedamerica.us/the-presiden...
One for @ykomska.bsky.social

Just a reminder: They took away the €9 Ticket because they said they couldn't finance it anymore (Cost: €2.5 Billion) Yet the government just approved it's second "Tankrabatt". (Cost: €2.5 Billion)

Little movie fact: for the movie "Valkyrie" - they used the abandoned NVA Löpten airfield in Brandenburg as a stand in for the Wolfsschanze airfield in Rastenburg-Wilhelmsdorf (image 1 taken from the movie) digitalcosmonaut.com/flugplatz-lo...
Tristanstraße 8-10 in Zehlendorf was the home of Claus von Stauffenberg. On the morning of 20th July 1944 he left here to fly to the Wolf’s Lair near Rastenburg on the ill fated attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
As I've gotten older - I've really internalized two things: 1. I don't need to give my opinion to everything I see/read/hear. (Both online and IRL). 2. It costs absolutley nothing to be nice. Following these two points, my quality of life has drastically increased.
It's always nice to be reminded that there are kind people out there. The kids mother was running the marathon on Saturday, and we stood on the sidelines with a banner to cheer her on. A stranger filmed the interaction and then sent us the video. It costs nothing to be nice 🙂.
