This by Rheinmetall CEO is precisely the arrogance that will come to haunt 🇩🇪. It was arrogance vis-à-vis Chinese competitors that helped bring German carmakers in the ditch they are in. And it‘s this type of arrogance vis-à-vis lessons learned by Ukrainians that will cost us.

The military deployment was planned for 2026 but had to be escalated due to the US operation in Venezuela. Danish troops from the Army and Special Forces were deployed and demolition of airports and runways was prepared. Transport planes and combat aircraft were deployed. 3/4

In 1973, Gough Whitlam responded to criticism about the price paid for Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionist masterpiece “Blue Poles”, by joking it would at least help offset the US’s “adverse balance of payments” with Australia.

I have my issues with the way the Marsden Fund has worked in recent years, but completely disbanding the social science and humanities funds is mind-bogglingly short sighted. There is already very little support for this work in NZ compared to Australia. www.beehive.govt.nz/release/mars...
